… So, if you ever get into an elevator and there’s a manatee in there, don’t worry, it’ll be okay.

I would’ve thought that toy car to be around much longer than the 1990s… like 1960s. (And where is the this only Parisian stop sign? What also stopped the city government from installing them? Money?)

Now how do they know that the manatees are holding it in?

That must’ve been one dedicated researcher!

In 1991 we were in a recession, not surprising this was the only car many people could afford

Manatee must be the only creature able to do that successfully!

I was living in Scotland for a few years and the area I was in had no traffic lights and few signs. When I got back to the states, I kept passing lights. Only got caught once, thankfully and no accidents.

So the manatees are like those little toy submarines we used to get in cereal boxes. You filled a cavity with baking soda and put the sub in vinegar water. The carbon dioxide would cause the sub to surface where it would “relieve” itself and then sink. Repeat till the baking soda had all reacted.

It might have out sold all cars, but it is a toy car, not an actual car.

When first visiting Martha’s Vineyard years ago cabbies used to boast that there were no traffic lights, but during a recent bridge repair and only one lane was available, lights were put in to control the direction of traffic.

Also the one blinking light was a bit of a landmark (when getting directions or news announcements in the paper etc.), but that was replaced with a small rotary. The bus drivers curse about it’s tight radius that makes it difficult to get around, they blame the state DOT meddling for spoiling local culture. Fortunately there is only one state highway.

My ex-wife was a lot like those manatees. In more ways than one.

I think that is a Canadian stop sign. In Canada they are bi-lingual with “Stop” and “Arrêt” but in France they just say “Stop.”
