You’d think a dino fan like Calvin would know the difference between paleontology and archaeology.

It looks like an old double-edged razor, so Dad will just pop in a new blade. Yes, I’m old and I still remember them.

Archeologist have the most mind-numbing job on the planet.

Actually, that’s what grad students are for.

Since Calvin is an archaeologist, it would be interesting if he met Indiana Jones.

Thankfully, there are people willing to do these things to give us a glimpse of the past.

They prefer dynamite but it makes putting the pieces back together much more difficult.

The trick in archaeology is not making the find, it’s preserving the find. Hence, the need for delicate tools and care in excavating and removing the find from a site. After being buried or sealed for centuries (if not millennia), objects and artifacts begin to decay at an exponential rate once exposed to air and humidity and, heaven help us, being handled.

    I don’t think it’s a razor – rather a shaving brush! (Remember those?)

If I recall this story arc correctly Calvin ends up creating a new fossil remains of something that doesn’t exist for real.

My wife put chicken bones in the boys (we have three of them) sand box for the kids to find. They sure were excited to find them.

Hobbes was referring to the shaving brush he is holding.
