I read AWiT in 1963, when it first came out and have re-read it a few times. The scene with the kids in front of the houses, all doing the same thing (bouncing balls), was really eerie since I was living in Base Housing, where the Capehart housing is all the same…

Our teacher read it to us in third grade, during rest time after lunch. That would have been around 1971. The weird thing is, I just ran across the book on Amazon last night. Totally random. (well, mostly random. It’s in the genre I was searching thru.) I found out about the movie, and the sequels, when I went looking to see when Wrinkle was published. Year I was born. How about that.

Really? Hate for a Caldecott winner about science with a girl as the hero? Not what I expect from this comic.
