I wonder why Slackmeyer, at his own Christian wedding, is suddenly religious enough to wear a yarmulke. My guess is that it’s only because Trudeau wants to remind his audience that Slackmeyer’s Jewish.
I believe the true question posed by the clergy goes something like, “If anyone knows any reason why these two may not be legally joined, speak now.” At least that was the question at a wedding I attended of an almost girlfriend where I knew it would not work. I am afraid I would have embarassed her and myself had the question been otherwise. BTW, the marriage lasted barely four months for all practical purposes.
