You could go to a local shoe store, buy something that fits and support your local economy.

My, my, Janis is quite flexible!

I buy locally whenever possible. If no one has the clothing and footwear I want, I then buy from a certain outfitter in Maine.

Shoes don’t stretch and….

I always buy my clothes locally, but I do get my shoes via mail-order. At my age, I don’t want ugly teeny-bopper shoes, a that seems to be all the shops carry.

Retailers wonder why brick & mortar sales are down, & persons shop online now. I hate it for clothes, because I want to try stuff on before I buy. But so little inventory is carried in the stores, now, & the sales floors have been abandoned by sales personnel. The checkouts are no longer around the store, they are in cattle-herding lines up front. Larger & smaller than normal sizes are no longer available to try on. It is such a pain ordering clothes online, because then, if it does not fit, you have to drag it in to the brick & mortar, or ship it back. It is now a nightmare to clothes shop if you are not average. I just want to shop, try it on & purchase it right then & there. Clothes buying has not improved or become a great experience, it is now a nightmare & I detest it. I no longer buy clothes or shoes until I am forced to because the item is so raggedy.

The foibles of e-shopping!

I am old enough that all the shoes they carry locally look like clown shoes. $150 for a pair of tennies? I don’t think so.

How about boots with stiletto heels?

With an occasional exception, I don’t really care for “Correspondence” chess games. They seem so “antiseptic”, like they were constructed in a clean room…

I buy a lot of things online but not something I wear. Playing chess by mail makes no sense. But hey, to each their own.

…and return the less comfortable (pair).

We very rarely buy anything online for this very reason, and when we do it is from Walmart for store pickup. I buy all my shoes from Walmart – and they last much longer than the 6 months mentioned. Most of the shoes I buy though, are boys shoes. I have small feet and fit a size 4 boys shoe. They are so much more comfortable than ladies or even girl’s shoes. I have boys hiking boots for winter and boys skate sneakers for the rest of the year. And I am about to turn 65.

So Walmart has reasonably priced, comfortable shoes, which last at least a couple of years, and are great for this 65 year old woman!

They cost a fortune and have nothing in his size (also a small size) and no styles that he liked – traditional men’s shoe. So what does he wear, Walmart’s men’s work shoes – which also last and last.
