Petey has a remarkable memory, in this case for Halloweens. And stage fright.

Mom’s clearly learned to roll with the Petey-angst punches.

Which explains why he went as a box the next year.

Whenever I went as something obscure my Dad would just tell people I was a ghost.

Memories….or the lack thereof. I can’t remember what I was year over year.

Grog since you mentioned it, neither can I. I do remember bringing home full shopping bags, dumping them on the kitchen table and going back out again to get the bag refilled.

When I was Petey’s age, a parent always went with us (when begging was done at night, as it should be). One year, as a joke, my dad took a shot glass and held it out whenever we said “Trick-or-Treat”. Enough of the neighbors took him seriously that by the end of the night, we were helping him get from house to house.

Out of one boy’s trauma, a little girl’s joy.

I did great costumes for my kids, but in the younger years they were made of cotton flannel so they could serve as PJs for a while. I was a thrifty and practical mom. When they were older, they helped me make paper mache heads or other stuff, and I usually themed their costumes to be a group. One year they were Robin Hood, Little John and Friar Tuck (my littlest guy). After my daughter was born-one year she was Dorothy and the boys were tinman, lion and scarecrow- etc.
