If someone is providing a service someone else is willing to pay for, I think they deserve at least a measure of respect. Of course, the amount of respect and the amount of the service rise proportionately. (Is that $10.00 per, uh, job, or per time segment?)

Uncle Ryan seems to know his hoes, although for ten bucks you’d have to question the quality.

Well, I suspect that someone who “dates” Trout’s mother is pretty much a bargain-basket sort of shopper.
Though you never know…
There are rich folk for whom “slumming” is part of the forbidden aspect of appeal.
I still get the impression the Uncle Ryan is not in that category.
In any case, I’d bet $10 buys something a bit shopworn…..
and not even a… um… a garden-variety sort of hoe…
And I’d like to think that Trout assumes they’re all talking about a stubby blade on a long stick,
and nothing a ten-year-old girl shouldn’t know about.

I get the impression that Uncle Ryan is not too acquainted with gardens.

I get the impression that Uncle Ryan has more than just a runny nose.
