Geography was a basic discipline when I was in school, but I’m now over age 65. From what I’ve seen of my nieces and nephews’ school work, it’s all math and science. No geography, or history. Doesn’t get you a tech job…

So instead of teaching math, for which he is qualified, he will submit to a whim and teach geography, for which he is not qualified. In addition all the kids are now late for the next class.

I wonder how many people know what Barsoom is and where the word originated?

When I was in 8th grade in the late 60s, one of my classmates was asked to go to the world map and point out Vietnam. You know, that country that was in the news every day for pretty much the entire decade… She hemmed and hawed, and then pointed to Spain.I wasn’t the only one in the class who face-palmed- but I still think a few others agreed with her…

Unlike, say, surgery or auto mechanics or computer design, anyone who’s ever attended school thinks that he or she is an expert on education.

My 4.5 year old grandson loves maps. He knows each state AND each state capital! As well as many countries.

As a kid we had a map like board game involving all the world’s Flags.

Today I am rarely puzzled by what is on the city hall’s third pole.
