    Roy, not to worry. With the increased militarization of police and increased numbers of them, there will always be donuts. Unless of course, they come to the wrong address, trump up some charges on you, seize everything you own, and put you in prison. No donuts there.

    Humanities and arts can be funded from wealthy donors, as they have been for most of human history. Let those who enjoy them, fund them. They started taking tax money when their end products no longer pleased enough wealthy people.

    Wait till the price of donuts goes up because there won’t be any foreign workers to plant and harvest the crops. Fewer crops means higher prices.

    the problem is government funding comes with strings. Such as in research in physics. If you don’t study string theory, you don’t get funding. Same thing about the causes of global warming. If you don’t think that it is man-made, you don’t get funding.

    Interesting that so many of the comments argue about government support for the arts, but few address the issue of science.
