Fire hydrants? You want Puddles to pee on it?

Pet snacks and food are “flavored” to appeal to humans, not pets…where is a cat supposed to find fish, or a dog find chicken and turkey?

I can’t believe Puddles is that picky. You could tear off a piece of the box and my dog would scarf it down as if it were prime rib.

Dog food is designed to please the owners, not the dogs. Owners feel better about giving their dog a crumbly tasteless treat that looks like a steak, instead of a lump of crumbly tasteless cereal. Since most dogs seem to have limited perception of colors, using food coloring to make cereal look like steak is kind of lost on the dog. All they need is something that smells like meat…

No, they should make them SMELL like garbage cans. Then Pud might be interested.

Reminds me of years ago when I had a mini Doxie – I had a box of “Pup – a – Roni” for him and had set two of them on the counter. The look kind of like short beef sticks. My sister came over, and while I was on the back patio, she tried one, and when I came back in with the dog, she wanted to know where I got them as they did not taste very good. Then I told her that they were for the dog and got the box out for her to see.

Puddles is a pooch of discriminating tastes, we see. Bernice is right and Luann has wasted the price of that box of Bow Wow T-Treats….

For some reason this really jumped out at me – Luann’s big bug-eyes might have looked appropriate when she was a girl, but the way Luann is drawn is starting to look inappropriate for a young woman who is now in college.

Seeing a Puddles break makes me want to beg my wife again if her 70 year old husband can bring a dog in our house. Kids are long gone. She is much wiser than me though because I never had one so taking c/o one does not come naturally. But getting back to Luann is a breath until we get back in the hot and heavy arc that is going on right now.

@GERMANSHEPHERDS4EVER: An odd comment, coming from a dog. I always figured that ‘dog people’ (except for those involved with fighting the dogs) were among those of us who definitely ‘have lives’, because they’ve made room in their daily activities to love and be loved by a critter who mostly exists just to be loyal and loving…

It may also depend if the treat was a cracker or meat byproduct. My last dog probably woulda ignored it if it was a cracker, but if it was anything meat-related she’d have been all over it.

Many years ago, I had a German Shorthaired Pointer, and when the apples on my tree were ripening, she would stand on her hind legs, pick off an apple with her mouth, and eat the whole thing. When the apples first started disappearing, I though maybe kids in the neighborhood were climbing over the fence and taking them, which I did not mind. But, as it turned out, she was the guilty party. She also loved broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, grapes, and a few other non- meat things. I had to watch her close because I did not want her getting ahold of peaches, plums, or any other stone fruit because of the chance a sharp piece might cause some damage internally.

somehow just dropping food on the floor from 5 ft up seems crude. she may as well just throw it at Puddles and hit him with it. I don’t give treats to my cat like that.

Today’s strip reminds me of a late-1950s “Peanuts” Sunday strip where Lucy is offering Snoopy a piece of candy, and throws it up in the air for him to catch. But in its downward flight, snoopy suddenly sniffs it, and walks away as it falls to the ground. As Charlie Brown explained it to a confused Lucy, “He can’t stand coconut!” (At the time, that line was a running gag in the strip.)
