I always knew Cap’n Eddie was telling the truth. What he was saying made as much sense as anything else happening these days.

while probably still protected under the 1st amendment, there is a difference from fake news that identifies itself as fake (like the onion), which is satire, fake news that tries to pass itself off as real news (like most of the stuff on breitbart) are lies, manipulation, and dangerous and probably still protected but should be fought. not only did a guy recently shoot up a restaurant because of fake news (lies) but the owners of that restaurant have been harassed for months and received death threats. someone needs to take responsibility for printing and promoting those kinds of lies.and then there is “fake” news where the author believes the crazy conspiracy.

@mwaurelius If you think News Control or thought shaping started with the Internet, you’re very young or poorly informed. Go back and watch some “nightly news” broadcasts from the 1960s and 1970s. In retrospect, and armed with the facts of the day, we were horribly misled.

@mwaurelius The travesty of news manipulation goes back even further. Check the stories of what was left out of the so called ‘battle front’ news reels of WWII. Had American families been allowed to see the actual death toll and brutality of battle, the ‘stop the war’ movement might have begun long before VE or VJ day. Imagine today’s world if the internet had existed then or during WWI.

Something I saw in an author’s note at the end of a book I just read (written before all this talk about “fake news”) seems to cover what is going on today: “Decisions about what is true and what is not are made not by facts, but what we, as individuals, are predisposed to believe. Oftentimes this is based upon our personal, political, religious and cultural beliefs.”

This is the real story. The authorities are not so much worried about fake news getting out as they are about REAL news getting out.

This is exactly why some people made it illegal to teach slaves how to write. I guess teaching them to read so they could follow written instruction was allowed, though. Say what you want about the Grand Old Party of The South, but they sure know how to uphold tradition.

The atom bombing was a test; Hiroshima on a central business district (ignoring the naval base just out of blast range), and Nagasaki for residential (since Kokura was clouded over), coincidentally, the largest Christian community in Japan. The first peace attempts by Japan were in late April, through USSR, who stalled them until they could invade Manchuria for its factories. Another, more logical attempt was made through Switzerland in late July. Most Japanese military leaders knew the war was over after the loss of the Marianas, long before Trinity. Sure, there were a handful of fanatics who tried to kill Hirohito “in the name of the emperor” while his surrender broadcast was being played. They had no support from the military and when they committed suicide, let them bleed to death instead of the coup de grace decapitation.

The Truth? You can’t handle the truth!

Capt Eddie needs to go all Constitutional on those alleged agents.

Fake news is not “satire” – it’s propaganda and sedition. Who are you trying to kid with this apologist crappola? She lost in a massive face plant – get over it!
