Shouldn’t happen in most areas, because of early and absentee voting, and by-mail voting for the disabled and elderly. I voted early to make sure this wouldn’t happen to me.
Here in Toronto, with a population well above 2 million, a long wait in line to vote is five minutes. Usually I’m able just to walk in and vote right away. What is it with the US? You can’t figure out health insurance for your citizens and you can’t figure out how to manage voting.
Just noticed on TV that the Trump butts into a long line to vote. Perhaps if those big shots had to wait like the common folk.. the voting system would be improved.
Of course, you don’t mention that generally you are voting for just one office (MP in federal elections). Out here in the boonies of North Texas, we had 15 offices and one plebiscite on our ballot, and other jurisdictions had far more. We didn’t get to vote on Senate this time. Still, I vastly prefer the Canadian system of counting ballots (in public, witnessed by each party up close, and on site by everyone in the bleachers). No recount necessary.

I awoke an hour early to vote. Only took 10 minutes from start to finish. Now I have to find something to do with the extra 50 minutes.

I waited less than five minutes, voted for Clinton, and thanked a nice woman for the cookie on the way out.
.
One of the students in my Monday class was looking for a ride home so she could vote today. Three hours each way. I hope she found someone.

Elderly poll workers make the line long. If they would just process people faster the wait times would be greatly reduced.

I love living in Washington state. 100% mail in ballots.

I voted on Halloween Day. It seemed appropriate. Here in NC, over 40% of eligible voters voted early.

Trump you know is absolutely outraged over this; so incensed, that he filed ( yet another ) lawsuit.

In central Ohio, some of the electronic voting machines were running out of paper, so there were fewer and fewer usable machines as the day went on.
