I used to have one of those small umbrellas. In the big rains I had to face, it didn’t do a whole lot of good. My head might remain mostly dry, but my clothes would get soaked: winds blew rain sideways more often than not!

Everyone in the city in which I work seems to use a golf umbrella now— one person taking up 1-and-a-half sidewalks. I myself just wear a ballcap: keep the glasses dry. The particular corner I have to cross is so windy an umbrella is useless (and sometimes I have to carry my cap).

It looks like the umbrella used by Wyle E. Coyote just before the boulder lands on him.

Brookstone sells a golf-size umbrella that double folds down to about 8 inches. No rain gets under that brolly!
