That’s what you get honestly. And Elly, you can deal. You have punished your kids for much longer for much worse (even though this is pretty up there)

If Michael were given permission to utilize the phone, he’d call his friends’ parents to rat out the friends so they too would be grounded

I’m surprised because I figured that John thought the whole thing was just a big laugh…

Simple. Make him stop complaining out loud about it

When my kids got grounded I would add a day if they complained about it. They never complained after the first time.

How draconian, especially compared to today’s model of parenting.

If I’d have been grounded, I wouldn’t have been able to leave the house! He’s just getting a slap on the wrist. Stow it Michael.

I can relate to Ellie. When our boys were little, my husband would deal out that sort of grounding. No TV, no Nintendo, no Legos or Hot Wheels, no play dates, no this that or the other…..all the things that kept them busy while I was trying to cook, clean, and maybe have a cup of tea. Then he’d waltz out the door, go to his nice office filled with grown ups. Leaving me to deal with an upset and then bored child or two. It was worst when the grounding was for something that I didn’t think needed a grounding.

Now I know what my parents meant when they said “this is going to hurt me more than you”. I never gave it much thought until I saw Elly’s comment today.

I have always wondered who was getting punished when a kid got grounded – the miscreant or the parent ?

When I grounded my children I always used it as a last resort, after all I was going to have endure a part of the punishment also.

You’re talking about Elly’s cooking, not some great cook.
