“But you run for Congress every 2 years; a Bachman warbler is a once in a lifetime event.”.A Bachman warbler was last seen in 1988, two years after this strip was written. It has no business being in Yosemite. The birds range was the East Coast and the Gulf states east of Texas. It wintered in Cuba — economic boycott be damned.

How things change. Back then, it was OK to say “bird-watching”. Today, it’s “birding”, and bird-watching is non-PC. If you call a birder a bird-watcher, you are in big trouble.

The Bachman was in Yosemite trying to find his mates, Turner and Overdrive.

Massive heart attack and still got his picture. She ended her career with Alzheimers and her husbands loser associate as caregiver.

Kind of a stereotype, the eccentric birder. Not consistent with the ONE birder I know, who is quite normal. Was Lacey a birder before she met the guy? I think she just goes along to spend some time with him.

The Bachman is likely extinct…… Michele, not the bird!

I’m sure just about every birder knows a birder who’s a bit eccentric. That’s certainly the case in my hobby, where it’s me.

My “life list” is pretty short but it includes four species of penguins, skuas, and a couple of toucans.

New York’s Yosemite Park (Westchester County) is not to be confused with California’s Yosemite National Park (Tuolumne, Mariposa and Madera Counties).
