Hot, muggy, burning sun, violent storms, insects galore, cicadas buzzing away like mad, sultry nights, high electric bills… I’m not a big fan of August. September brings welcome relief.

We’re already back in school in August. I WISH this was what my August looked like!

Monday here in KS and Tuesday some areas in KS first day of school. For a while took a 2nd look didn’t know that flying figure is Holly. I can say for a fact that’s not fun we have. Where’s Phil and Grandma? I don’t like August surprise there able to maneuver in sand figured beach sand would be too hot.

Ugh! Hot & humid every day, I HATE the summer! October can’t get here fast enough! And NO, I WON’T be wishing for this heat in January. While winter is not my favorite season, it’s still far preferable to summer.

This is the second Sunday with this theme. As someone who has actually taken a 3 year old and 8 month old to the beach in the last week, I can assure you that this is NOTHING like reality. Reality is babies screaming with sand in their eyes while toddlers run into the deep surf and throw tantrums when it’s time to leave. Laying on the sand napping peacefully? Not so much.

Oh yes, yes I do, and June and July! Hate to see winter come! Long dark evenings, cold and snow, I should move!

No, no, Wally, the glasses should be safely on shore! (Hope he’s not the one driving.)

I feel with all the people groaning about school in August. All the time I was growing up, school started the day after Labor Day, and now they’re beginning in August. I STILL can’t adjust. It’s just WRONG.

I completely agree, Catherine M.! The day after Labor Day, and no sooner. And none of this year round stuff, either! But, alas, I’m a traditionalist!

I hate the heat and humidity around here. But it is the only time of year to enjoy fresh-picked sweet corn, peaches and still warm from the sun tomatoes.

I love August. I take off the whole month. Back to work Sept 7th. School in August? How unfair is that? Our schools start the first day after Labor Day.

For here in KS I can speak of other states. More central there are abudant schools reason start in August all have A/C by bonds voted by voters. Can’t say for schools buses though. I think when I was a kid over 40 years ago we started in a hot class room week or two before Labor Day.

Rockingwoman what type of job do you have must have worked a lot of years for that much time off. Anyone who earns a vacation I ENVY them. I work pt office setting and agraviated by what’s been happening so going to take Jr. College classes for Medical Encoding & Billing maybe Medical Transcription. Totally different then current position. I do not want to be nurse or medical aid couldn’t handle that nothing to visualize surgery. Paperwork enough. I hope I don’t loose it just reading.

Kab Buch - or maybe Rockingwoman doesn’t live in the States. Up here we get at least 4 weeks, my husband’s up to 5 1/2 after 18 years on the work force. (I’m a music teacher and get the whole summer, yay!)
