Let’s not get hasty. Start by finding out who said it and in what context. It could be a mom praising her daughter’s drawing, and having nothing to do with Marigold at all.

At least it’s only weakened. If it was broken, the reaction would be more like “Holy s**t, a REAL LIVE UNICORN! Gotta take lots of photos! Gotta alert the media!”

I thought the problem was that the phrase “lovely unicorn” might imply some unicorns were not lovely.Maybe it’s not the Shield; maybe someone just saw first season Twilight Sparkle.

I think that the MOST logical thing is that Marigold has simply been using her magic too much for her best friend and all she needs to rest her magic for the “Shield of Boringness” to be back to full strength. So in my opinion, this will be a short-lived panic session. :)
