Teena is waiting for the gruel to attract flies, to see if mom’s statement holds any truth…..

One brief remark to Moms being pressured to prepare “healthy”, organic etc. Meals. How healthy is it if the kid’s won’t eat it❓

Never made our kids eat anything. Just told them: “You don’t have to eat it, but if you don’t, you don’t get anything else instead.” They ate.

my parents made me eat creamed corn once at a family dinner. I projectile vomited it by up across/onto the table. They didn’t try and make me eat anything I didn’t want to again.

Being #6 of 7 and very finicky, my parents gave up fighting and pretty much let me eat what I would. My mother would always prepare 2 veggies for dinner: corn (which I would eat), and something else. With 7 kids, there was never too much. That said, I still have bad eating habits, so I swore I wouldn’t do that with my kids. Funny thing is, both of the girls are excellent eaters and LOVE trying new foods!

Farm life was tuff during WWII and us kids ate anything and everything….except parsnips.. Dam things would run a dog off a gut-pile..Ma made a custard-like pie one day and us kids et it and wanted more.. Turns out it was Parsnip Pie..Ma had found an old recipe from the 1800’s. Goooood Groceries !!

When your Mom mentions children starving in Africa, DO NOT offer to “send them this slop.” That will get you out of eating it, but there are unpleasant side effects.

This is a trope I continually fail to understand, since there was nothing my mother prepared that I didn’t enjoy.
