When I was little, I wanted to be 3 things: a secretary, a performer, and a mommy. I’ve done all 3. (At one point I wanted to be a teacher…but then I hit junior high, and I thought, if I have to deal with these monsters, I want no part of it…and that was the end of that.)

There’s a Monty Python sketch about a prodigal son who returns home to his writer father after running away and getting his dream job in the coal mines. The dialogue is priceless.

At one point I wanted to be an astronaut, then paleontologist and work in comic books and I have always been a drawer of pictures and still am also I write.

Very few grow up to work in the fields they were attracted to in their youth.

I ended up drawing a webcomic instead.

What type of artist is dad? Fine art? Commercial? Graphic art? Comic illustrator? I don’t think I’ve ever seen…

I’d still rather work in art that any of those other jobs.
