Yellow or orange squash are hard to miss. Zucchini, on the other hand, can easily grow to 18 inches or more without detection—I found one enormous one only by tripping on it.

Janis may not be so happy when the 3000th squash grow, those suckers are prolific.

…I just put my squash plants out into the garden two weeks ago (I started them early indoors) – two days later, the HAIL got them…I replanted outside, but it’s anybody’s guess as to whether or not I’ll have any buttercup squash this year :(…

Here in Kalifornia’s central valley, I’ve been harvesting squash for over a month now. I enjoy the cooked vegetable, but have started baking squash bread loaves, and giving away the many extras from the prolific producing plants.

I never managed to produce one pumpkin in Florida – they’d blossom, then pfft. Some of the herbs did fine, though, especially the basil and rosemary.

My wife won one in a door-prize drawing. Gorgeous bloom, no fruit.

Everyone knows the old saw about not leaving the car unlocked because strangers will fill it with zucchini if you do?

Sage and lavender grow for me. I got one pumpkin the year I planted them, but never again. I planted some heritage melon seeds. this year, but have seen no sign of germination after two or three weeks…

We are in SE North Carolina and my wife planted four plants this year. I’m already so tired of squash I’m ready to pull the plants up.

You can stir-fry squash blossoms and stop them right there before you’re stuck with baseball bat zucchinis. I finally found out why people plant them after watching the squirrels, which raid my fruit like crazy, backed away from the zucchini plant: or, as the squirrel would say, the porcupine bush.
