One of the most interesting girls’ names I’ve heard is Nevaeh.

My Grandaughter’s name is Bina Cecilia. Bina means Dance and Cecilia is the patron Saint of music. They are a musical family. Mom plays flute, my son plays piano. Bina and her sister Marley play violin and Grandson Adlai plays cello! BTW. Adlai was named after a fav uncle, not the other guy! lol

Haha! That’s one of many reasons why I now go by my middle name rather than my first.

@TEMPLO S.U.D. My friend’s granddaughter is “Nevaeh.” “Heaven” spelled backwards.

I never gained a unique name. My mom did not like any given to her. My own sister wished her name was different.

Wait a minute. Aren’t these two sisters? If they are, she would have known how Val’s mother said her name.

I don’t there’s anybody in the world that honestly likes the name their parents gave them. Like Lightenup, I never use my first name – refuse to even tell anyone what it is.

We gave our three girls “unpopular” names (Lord, deliver me from another Olivia!) and encouraged them to use either the first or middle name as they saw fit.

I tend to think of “Valerie,” by the Monkees. Showing my age.Actually, it’s kind of a regret that somebody in the strip was not named “Rose.” Then there’d be someone for every character named in “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer.”

Years ago, I met a young woman freshly arrived from Israel. Her name was Chai, pronounced “Hi.” She said that when she was walking down the street, people would say, “Hi.” She couldn’t figure out how complete strangers knew her name.

Okay, Nonda means bliss in WHICH language? I’ve tried googling Nonda, it changes to Nanda, and in both cases, I get results that do not match up in Japanese, southeastern Queensland, Australian, Quenya,, and a Honda dealership somewhere.

    Am I missing something?

Funny thing, my older cousin is Valerie, I’m Tonda. And she was the wild one who was told “Why can’t you be more like Tonda”.

Tonda, by the way, was a compromise name. I was meant to be named after my grandfathers, Elmer Sylvester, but God had mercy and made me a girl. So they used the name of a refugee from the Congo who was interviewed on the radio (it means “Thank you, God”). Which I suppose they thought was preferable to naming me after my grandmothers, Mary Florence.

My father’s mother was named Minerva America + her last name. She died of TB in 1898, before he was two. He wanted to name me after her, both names. My mom managed to whittle it down to using “Minerva” as my middle name, with my first name what Mom wanted. Kids used to tease me about Grandma’s name if they found out about it; I was glad to shuffle it off when I got married. Bless Grandma’s heart, wish I could have known her.

Thanks for using my name. Don’t think is a trendy name as I have never met another. I like to think I am unique:)
