Independence from Disney? The Millne family was bought out ages ago. Then again, the ageless Pooh can probably wait another 12 years till 2026 when he’s granted automatic independence. Scotland’s been waiting 307 years…

I doubt it would be a republic though: the royal whatsists never give up anything if they can help it. Did you know they STILL use the title the Pope gave H VIII shortly before he ‘seceded’

Quebec was the first thing I thought of when I heard of the Scottish independence vote. As much as the independence supporters want it, I don’t think they’ve thought it through.

“TO understand political power right, and derive it from its original, we must consider, what state all men are naturally in, and that is, a state of perfect freedom to order their actions, and dispose of their possessions and persons, as they think fit, within the bounds of the law of nature, without asking leave, or depending upon the will of any other man.”

Yep. Paul Krugman has pointed out how dangerous it would be for Scotland to remain on the British pound — Spain found out the pitfalls of having a currency that your government cannot control to initiate recovery from economic slumps. The Euro gave conservatives in other countries the power to destroy Spain’s labor force, and giving it a double-dip recession, all in the name of “austerity.”

I don’t think the Texans are actually going anywhere, unfortunately. If they took their 36 electoral votes and left, we would never have another Republican president. With that incentive, when I first heard this I emailed my relatives in Texas and asked if they needed help packing. They still haven’t responded.

Texas came into the union with that land, and the buildings, etc have been built on Texas land. It’s theirs, and we would be better off without them. Let them go, and have a going away party.

John Locke it seems , used too many punctuation marks , such as commas, to clarify what he was writing about I, for one, couldn’t understand, to my embarrassment, anything he was saying! Hey Locke, CUT OUT THE COMMAS IF YOU WANT TO BE A GREAT PHILOSOPHER!

Clark Kent: Simple. It would be a military dictatorship well within a decade..SizeofaPea: You left out the payment necessary for me to go along with it: full compensation and moving expenses for any American to stay in America or any other country of their choice. I am in Texas, although a bit closer to the Red River edge than Night-Gaunt49’s international waters (15 miles versus 50 miles plus three Spanish leagues).
