especially if the governor and his staff thought it might be a good idea to shut down a major bridge for a “traffic study.”

One of the things to be said for where I presently live is that the school bus drivers actually pull over to let the line of cars behind them get by.

    Amazing.

Why are bus drivers exempt from obeying the speed limit?I have NEVER in my life seen a school bus obey the 15mph school zone speed limit. Granted, 95% of all other cars are the same, but school buses seem to be the fastest.

Anxiously awaiting his take on those bicycle riders who think they rule the road. The irresponsible ones who ride down the middle or blow through an intersection.

Bet it made your day, Bruno! Once I was driving in my miserable tiny Fiat (back in the mid ’60’s, when they weren’t very well made [it kept leaking water into its gas]), when some old people didn’t see me and nearly forced me off the road. A policeman was right behind them, and nailed them. On a less triumphant note, I was on my way to church one Sunday morning, when a city bus driver struck me as doing something arrogant, and I stuck out my tongue at him (not being in the habit of finger-flinging). I felt guilty, though, because it was Father’s Day.

If only stuff like that happened more often – it is amazing how many people I can annoy simply by driving the speed limit on the highway!

Only twice in my driving life have I seen a bad driver get his just desserts. The first was one of those drivers I call “rabbits”, who zip across all lanes finding openings that get them ahead faster than everyone else. One morning, one of these rabbits zoomed by and several blocks later, there he was, explaining himself to an officer of the law. The other was someone who gave me a dirty look as he passed me for having the temerity to be doing the posted speed limit. As I was driving past the local university, a university cop had him pulled over. As I drove past, I cheerily waved at the caught crumb. One of the best feelings of sweet justice I’ve ever had!

Wow! My wish sort of came true. I wanted him to due a strip about overtaking a tram, but instead, it’s a school bus.

When I moved from California to Arizona at age 40, the Motor Vehicle Division took my CA license, took a photo, and handed me an AZ license which is good until I turn 65. No test whatsoever. As a result, the Motor Vehicle office isn’t too crowded, and I don’t have to bother with a small fee every 5 years like in California.

In related news, AZ is the best state in the union if you want to die in an auto accident.

If a school bus stops, you must stop behind or just when it is on the lane? If there is a shroud and the bus leans to the right, can you pass it? Here we don´t have special rules for school buses.

Ignoring the school bus thing entirely, I used to really “love” it when you’d get Florida drivers around here. You could usually guess they had retired to Florida from the area because they always seemed to know the area they were driving in so well. But they always seemed to do twenty to thirty miles below the posted speed limit. Like you’d be in a 55 zone and they’d be doing 25 to 35. You’d have a double yellow so you really shouldn’t try passing and would wait for that passing zone with no cars coming, or for the highway to widen with a passing lane.

Which brings up the whole retirement thing again because just before you’d even seen the dotted lines they were already speeding up. And I know, they might see that passing zone before you could which wouldn’t have to be someone from the area who had retired out of the area. But there were times when I’d know there would be a passing zone just around a curve that you couldn’t see until you were into the curve and they would start speeding up before they got to the curve. Unless there were cars coming the other way and it was obvious you couldn’t pass them they always had to go like ten to twenty miles faster than the speed limit to get through the passing zone before you could. I mean it was absolutely ridiculous, they were deliberately try to keep you from passing. And the number of times I wished for a cop to seem them doing this and pull ’em over.

You do that here in Atlanta or anywhere in Georgia ata school bus driver (male or male) and it’s a safe bet you won’t get out of jail until you’re a very old person!

When I was going to school, all the neighborhood kids walked up to 5 blocks to get to the bus stop. We actually filled the bus up with just one stop.Now-a-days, the stupid bus stops EVERY 30 FEET AT THE END OF EVERY DRIVEWAY!

Don’t diss the bus driver. They deal with the worst kind of crap, and try to keep an enormous mass of steel from killing the people around them at the same time.
