It’s funny how Bernice manages to be self-righteous and pompous about Halloween.

Funny how Christ’s birth and ressurection (our salvation) is superceded by a day of demonic revelry. Just shows how we as a nation have such a bleak future.

Really? Venerable Bede made that very connection. There may not be much other evidence for it, but likewise there’s no other credible proposal for the origin of the name either.

Well, it looks like for the real meaning of Easter, or Christmas, we need to pop on over to Peanuts. Linus tends to know what it’s REALLY all about.

Eh. Whatever it may have meant in distant antiquity, nobody really cares anymore. But there’s still 1/3 of all mankind who cares about its current meaning.

The current purpose of these holidays is to boost the nation’s economy… the original purpose was to boost the Church’s economy.

Too bad that Greg has dropped the ball today. I can understand that he wants to recognize Easter, but it’s kind of jarring to have a prom story line that I’m sure will resume on Monday, get interrupted for one day by something non-related to it.

To be honest, I don’t ever recall the Daily (Mon-Sat). strip ever being all that synchronized with the Sun. strip. I think the closest we’ve come to it in my time of reading it regularly was when Brad/Toni just got formally engaged on 04/02 of last (or 2) years ago. We saw one snippet on a Sun. of Brad/Tony window shopping for rings in a jewelry store. Other than that, I’m not sure the “Sunday Strip only” viewers even know Brad and Toni are engaged. At least, I don’t recall any compelling Sun. strip referring to their engagement.

And, have there been any Sun. strips that have referred to the pending HS Graduation? If so, I don’t recall them.

Then again, I’m in “final study” mode for my last exam (one week from Tues.) so I might be forgetting a lot. :-)

INGSOC, you got it.Halloween is the eve of All Saints Day, which is followed by All Souls Day. In New Orleans, a time to visit the gravesites of our forebears, asking them to pray for us or us praying for them, respectively.

I remember the names of most of mine, but the ones that stick out are the “Betty Boop Floribunda,” and the “French Lace Floribunda…” and I only have about 15! =-O I am hopeful about the French Lace one…its putting on a good crop of leaves, and if it will Ever quit raining, it might begin to set buds. I don’t expect my roses to start blooming until May, however… ;)
