To be fair, since this is a comic, Rosa’s dad probably has enough influence to make Yale accept Gunther. “How the hell did I get in to Yale?” “Well, I told my dad to make ‘em accept you. You’re even gonna get to be skull and bones…” ;)

Yeah, plan C is NO long distance relationship. Which is either break up, or Rosa and Gunther go to the same place..It seems as though Evans is implying the former, but that doesn’t solve Rosa’s don’t-wanna-go-to-Yale problem. Rosa may “keep” Gunther if he is willing to run away with her on whatever world adventure she chooses.

God there are such negative comments on this arc in this strip, and why so hard on Gunther? Plan C might mean talking Gunther into coming to Yale with her, or to Mooney, as a second choice (assuming it is a good local or regional university), or it could be neither of those. But crushing his soul as someone said above? That is projection I think. If anything Rosa is trying to open up his soul to her and new possibilities.

OK, I’m going to go out on a limb here (and since I’m never right, you can be sure this is the one thing that won’t happen)

Greg’s setting it up for an O Henry “Gift of the Magi” situation: Rosa gives up the idea of Yale and gets accepted at Mooney so she can be with the Gunth. Gunther secures an on-campus job at Yale so he can go there and be with Rosa.

Plan C: it appears that Rosa has reached the end of her patience with Gunther’s shy hesitation and general wishy-washiness and intends to dump him, Yale or no Yale. Oh, well. He will have no one to blame but himself. And as long as Luann has Quill, the Berger boy seems likely to remain unattached….

She was already close to breaking up because Gunther has no spine and no interest in breaking out of the mold. She’s being held back by him. Putting the two of them together always was a bit silly.

Plan “C”? Yeah, “Columbia” is a good Ivy League alternative to Yale. :) However, Rosa wants to go to “Colombia”, or Peru, or Ecuador. Go, why doesn’t she go to college in South America instead? She would get the degree she needs for the Peace Corps, and she would already know the culture and the infrastructure.-As for Gunther, Rosa should consider him history. It’s time to move on with your life, Miss Aragones.

Back in the 70’s, my dad’s friend’s son got accepted at Harvard, with a scholarship. The kid decided not to go because he didn’t want to be that far from his girlfriend (they lived in Michigan). He decided instead to attend a local college.

The summer after he graduated from high school, he and his girlfriend broke up.

I disagree on where Gunther should go to college. My personal bet for him is MIT, if he’s going to go to a supercollege. It’s where a would be engineer belongs. Yale is more for badass lawyers.

There is no point in trying to arrange things so that Rosa and Gunther can be together. The fact is that this whole relationship is a really bad idea. This is a good chance for a clean break, and Rosa can meet someone who will make her much happier than Gunther does. Maybe Gunther too can find someone better suited, if there is a one-kiss-per-year-is-plenty-enough-for-me girl whom he can meet at Muni.

“I thought he was just being cheeky ! "^It is possible. But if that’s so, E.P. never returns and explains. The problem is that with such a statement as that, it’d be very easy to get it confused with the other meaning, the “politically incorrect” one…. with statements like that, it would seem that one would want to be more aware of the possibility. And when he posts about her, it’s usually the only way he describes her, and never by name….. – He does post on other strips with “gags”, so again, I guess it’s possible…. but, again, he never returns and explains, or does anything to make sure people know (like an emoticon or “button” like you usually use, or quotation marks, or something similar)…

“Aren’t we doing that already on this comment board?”^The difference is that it would be a show that would “decide” their outcome, as a reality show/game show. “How” usually does this list “tongue in cheek”, so this was another “tongue in cheek option”….

That said, if Rosa does have strings pulled and gets Gunther into Yale somehow…here’s the thing.

Even if they break up 3 weeks into making it to Yale…Gunther will still be a Yale student, getting a degree from Yale. She changes his life for the better, drastically, simply by getting him in to such a prestigious college. Gunther with a Yale degree simply brings more to the economy then Gunther without one. Who he’s dating at the time is irrelevant.

I like Rosa. Both versions of her are in my family, and I like her personality. Overall, I like her just as she is. Plus, she actually “likes-likes” Gunther and isn’t afraid of his “image”, like Luann is, at times. Lu likes him and his attentions, but Rosa actually appreciates what he has to offer (the new years’ arc notwithstanding)….
