I wonder what Luann’s tune would be if Quill wanted to read a book with her.

Looks like a nice way to spend summer vacation.

It’s so funny.. when we’re young (especially these days), we are always rushing to see all the stops along the path of life, but as we mature in life, we learn how precious it is, to take your time and enjoy the sights and sounds, tastes, and nuances along those stops……

I think today’s strip is wonderful. Frank and Nancy spending a quiet Summer afternoon together. That, my friends, is a symbol of true love for each other.

And the movies usually butcher the books anyway.

Thank goodness for Frank and Nancy and the book they are sharing, Beautiful Ruins, by Jess Walter! Not everything should be electronified and hurried!

I think Nancy may be getting “frisky”.

Works for me. I read to my wife – often while she’s driving when we go on vacation. We both enjoy it.

Sounds like a little bit of heaven to me.

Luann the Cable Girl?

The simple joys of life.

The thought occurs that she could argue for them to get the audiobook and just listen to that together.

I’m a little surprised that Luann didn’t know this about her parents before.

I would love to spend time like that with a man.

The best things in life are not things. The more I slow down, the more I experience; THAT IS LIFE!

So cute! This is what I want when I get married!

And Luann is stil naive enough to believe that ‘the movie’ is A: inevitable, and B: the same as the book. Foolish youngster.

Self-centered and shallow… remind me what the difference between Luann and Tiffany is again? Oh, right! Luann has a boomerang around her neck.

The movie is almost never the same as the book, as even Luann should know.

They are reading from Beautiful Ruins, by Jess Walters. They are near the end of chapter 1, so it is not too unusual that LuAnn hadn’t yet noticed this behavior. Unless it’s not their first book together.

This is sweet.

Romantic!

They still sell the Walkmans, and I still buy them… of course, it’s more streamlined now, but it’s slim enough for my pocket, or to clip on something, and some come with the weather alert channels, or the local TV, from local channels 2 up to 20, in addition to AM/FM, and cassette… and I record from my vinyl and CDs and MP3s onto cassettes and take them with me…. really helps to drown out unwanted sounds on public transport, or the like….

“They came in a dark metallic gray, too… :)”^It may even be the only color they come in these days, because I can’t seem to find any other color….

Well as long as they feel good about themselves, that’s all that matters. Our education system is a train wreck.

It is fun to hear someone else read to you. It is very relaxing.

I remember reading to boyfriends when I was Luann’s age. I would say I still do, except now it’s to the whole family.

Did anyone else notice that Luann is not wearing the boomerang necklace that Quill gave her?

I think a great way to do it would be as a limited cartoon series that goes chapter by chapter.

When Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire came out, we took turns in my family reading the book aloud, and my dad loved doing the Voldemort parts as he could get his voice all creepy, and he does a good Snape, too.

Reading to one’s spouse\best friend…stepping off life’s merry-go-round to take time to smell the roses…and other good things.

.Yes! How refreshing. Nicely said.

It’s all about the journey, not the destination.
