I don’t remember the “Right to drive a vehicle” in the constitution.
We already have background checks. Now the government wants to check personal medical records to find out what medicine you take so they can decide FOR YOU whether you need a gun or not.
The Second Amendment is an extension of militia bills from the same time. They wanted armed civilians because they didn’t want to over-extend the army. The National Guard is essentially our “well-regulated militia” now. Original intent only works when you look into ALL the documents at the time, not just 3 sentences.
Do you know any rights OTHER than keeping a gun? Can you even NAME the four rights just found in the First Amendment (which came first for a reason)? Do you know how many infringements there already are?If some of the Second Amendment absolutists spent as much time defending the First Amendment as the Second, I’d praise them. But all they want is total and free access to guns, which is NOT, in fact, what the amendment says.Try reading it. There is NO absolute right to owning guns.
The man in the cartoon needs to go to Louisiana.^http://www.nola.com/crime/index.ssf/2013/03/new_orleans_judge_rules_statut.html^A convicted felon contested his arrest after being found with a 40 cal and an AK 47 with a 30 round clip in his possession. He was released by the judge. If the ruling holds, a prosecutor said that ALL felons returned to prison because of gun violations may be retroactively found to have been improperly arrested and released.^That will make the Heritage Music Festival, Mardi Gras, and all the at home Saints games more interesting.^Guess I better get my concealed carry permit before I go visit the family.Nervously,C.
We can have no restrictions at all on owning guns, because it’s a Constitutional right. Voting, on the other hand, we can slap all kinds of restrictions on because that’s not a Constitutional right… oh, wait… it is! Hmmm…
Folks also fail to recognize that the Second Amendment came about because the BODY of the Constitution mandates that Congress can ONLY fund “the Army” for two years at a time, meaning no “standing army” in effect, which is WHY they wrote in the NEED for a MILITIA, NOT gang bangers or crazies with high capacity, high velocity ammunition, that didn’t exist in their day.
BTW, JFJ had armed body guards, MLK had armed body guards, RFK had armed body guards (but Unarmed Rosy Greer captured Sirhan Sirhan), Columbine had armed security on site, the Holocaust museum guard was armed- and shot by his assailant, most bank robberies involving shootings- the armed guards if present are the first ones shot!
The Constitution saw voting, not arms, as the means of changing the government, the militia, and “right to bear arms” was to defend THE NATION from attack by outsiders, NOT “the government” run amok.
So voting isn’t part of the constitution despite the fact that red states have put many laws preventing people from exercising that non-existant right? Amazing!
Wow, that guy stole both the car and gun his crimes to commit! Registration didn’t stop him! I’ll bet his license is suspended, too. More ‘wisdumb’ from Stahler’s bottomless well.
..I love the way the Tea Party shouts that our founding fathers guaranteed if our government fails us the we have a duty to rebuild it,but then say that our right of semi~automatic weapons is a Constitutional guarantee..they don’t seem to even know that we have already repealed the 18th Amendment because of the ‘violence’ it caused…
….calling them Tools would be too unkind..but selfish and greedy would not…
You need to check out your quotes a little better before you mis-quote a great thinker like Franklin.“They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety” was the original version of the quote. The closest is what was written in the April 1, 1736 edition of Franklin’s Paper ‘The Pennsylvania Gazette’ by a John Webbe. His reference was to support how great the privileges were Are under the British Rule at the time.Is that the situation you are attempting to support??

Yes, we know that once all drivers are licensed, the government will confiscate all the cars.

Yeah, so what if the 2nd amendment calls for “a well regulated militia”. That part seems to be forgotten by many.
