Elephant 1: Trouble. Our campaign's been a big mess. So Romney decided to use his Bain Capital skills. He took over and found the problem. And then he fired our candidate.
Romney’s campaign is a trainwreck and all the hairspray on Fox News can’t change that. YES Obama is unpopular, but the entire Republican message resonates with a shrinking minority of people who refuse to acknowledge that we’re not living in the 19th century anymore.

No credible Republican candidate could survive in this Tea Party environment and so the loonies came out from under their rocks to give it a try and it was a good show. Bachman, Santorum, Cain, Perry and Gingrich would be the logical choices for the radical tea party childish voter, but Romney was the adult with the money to beat them back; but now, the party is not going to let him be an adult; instead, they want to let Ryan be Ryan. This would be the death blow, and I pray that it happens. By 2016 the adults might be back in control and the Republicans can put up a real candidate that will be allowed to be himself; ….or….maybe not!
Yes, that is what they would do if they were able to plan for the longer term, but that clearly isn’t their goal. They want power and they want it as fast as they can get it by the path of least resistance, which means coopting and incorporating the Tea Party for short term gains, even if it ultimately harms them. The good news is their longer term loss is the rest of the country’s gain.
The Tea Party has some valid points. Their big problem, however, is their absolutist “My way or the highway” positioning. Compromise is not a sin; in fact nothing can be done in politics without it, as we’ve seen.
The real (Manchurian) candidate was supposed to be J. Edwards, but he spoiled it all by having an affair with the Queen.#See the movie, the first one, and you’ll get the joke.
Obama!! That’s “our candidate”!!Toles, for the first time, you’re RIGHT ON THE MONEY! Romney indeed found the problem, and Obama will be fired very soon!
Craig Linder’s helpful, lucid thoughts directed to @cdward are exactly what I have been trying to articulate when my #1 son and I are verbally duking it out. Craig, would you mind if I quote you and use your name? Dave doesn’t see Gocomics, but I bet some of his buddies at Red Camera do. Thanks again!
As a former journalist, I still have my contacts in the active press corps, and their conventional wisdom is that Romney was a bad choice from the beginning. He is terribly unpopular in New England, and his wealth has long insulated him from the trials of the average American. The GOP’s only chance rested on their ability to keep him properly scripted, and all of his campaign appearances on a tight schedule to prevent him from saying anything that had not been sanitized and approved. Of course, anyone who has spent time in modern politics can tell you that a campaign is a highly fluid situation, and chaos is the norm. Hence, Romney’s present state of affairs.
HOWIE, a Troll is someone who goes to the discussion board of, say, a cartoonist in order to attack him and his views, insult his admirers and fans, and generally make a nuisance of himself. A Conservative in the Mallard Fillmore discussion page, showing appreciation for some cartoons, criticism of others, would not be a troll. A troll is more like someone going to a concert with a bullhorn and interrupting the music to call the musicians and their fans idiots. A troll come to a discussion page not to discuss but to attack and vituperate. A liberal going to the Mallard Fillmore page to attack all conservatives would be a troll. If you hate the cartoonist and his cartoons, don’t read them! And don’t go to all this trouble just to spout venom and those who do like his stuff. All you do then is make your own side look mean spirited, irrational and unreasonable. When you happen to be in someone else’s house, don’t spit on your host or his friends. Just common courtesy.

“This election is about Obama.”No, this election is about the same thing it has been for a number of years; electing the lessor of two evils.

A step in the right direction, but they needn’t have bothered. The voters will take care of that come November.
