I’m an ABBA fan, too. Great music! Does your mother know that you’re out?

Jimmy Buffet: Why Don’t We Get Drunk… It’s one of those songs for me. It’s just so funny and the tune is catchy

“Ooohhh, why do there have to be NEW bands? Don’t they know that Rock and Roll reached its peak in 1977?”— Homer Simpson
Personally I’d say 1968 -1969, although I was only 4 years old at the time and had to work my way back to it. ABBA is great, though. Pure pop, but really well crafted and a guaranteed cure for a bad mood.
Still, it’s quite shocking how quickly time moves on. We’re now as far away from the song “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” as that was from “Rock Around the Clock”, as far away from “Smells Like Teen Spirit” as that song was from “He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother.” Heck, we’re as far away from “Rehab” as that was from “Soak Up the Sun,” and we’re as far away from “Bohemian Rhapsody” as that was from “It’s Only a Paper Moon.”
Hey hey, my my. Rock and Roll will never die.

The kid is lacking in the fact that each song stands on its own in regard to the preference of each of us. I love so many of the songs in the old movies

Boy! I’m really glad that Wally & Joan weren’t singing old “Carpenters” tunes (I like listening to old music like that too!) because if Andy had “Top of the World” stuck in his head, Andy might have suicidal thoughts!

@simpsonfan2 What’s wrong with ABBA?

Only one thing for him to do: plug in earpieces and listen to death metal music until Dobie Gray is banished from his head.

“Rock was great into the 70’s until Disco reared its ugly head,”
I’m not a fan of Disco as a genre, but there are (and were at the time) some Disco songs I like better than others, and “Staying Alive” is a great freakin’ song by any standard. I like some Rap songs better than others, but it arose after my time and from a culture I had no contact with, so I’m not qualified to make any sort of blanket judgment about it. There have also been plenty of BAD music in every era, in every genre.
Yeah, Chuck Berry had more to do with the birth of Rock than Bill Haley, but I was using “Rock Around the Clock” as a cultural benchmark more than a musicological one. Also, there’s a line from “Cadillac Records” where Muddy Waters (I think) says “Rock and Roll is just Blues sped up.”

“Better than that crap they call ‘today’s music’…”
How much of “today’s music” are you actually familiar with? Most likely there’s somebody putting out stuff you’d quite like, if it was important to you to go looking for it.

Jimmy Buffet’s Margarita Song is a hit to sing too. And what do you have against Abba. They’re terrific. How about some John Denver and Paul McCartney to go along with it.

Next thing you know Jan is going to be dissing all the greats like Billy Joel, Elton John, Don Henley, Phil Collins, Huey Lewis. Wouldn’t even surprise me to hear a crack on Def Leppard here lol. Sings “video killed the radio star” take that Jan lol And the best way to torment Andy would be to have a intercom system put in all the rooms of the house and the main one in the kitchen unable to be ignored by the other ones so that Wally could have the song “tarzan boy” from Baltimore torment him lol
