We ladies need to understand that a man who loves you doesn’t love your clothes and makeup. He loves you!

Chances are that within the next five years the “unemployed” group will be relabeled “American people.”

John, like most other men, is attracted to women, and Thank Goodness for it. Ogling women is almost a reflex, and it does not reflect negatively upon a man’s love for his wife. Women respond similarly to babies; it’s instinctive to look and take pleasure in looking, and it doesn’t mean they actually want to have another baby.

Elly would do well to be glad that her husband likes women and, therefore, is capable of loving her.

Dick Cheney already set the policy for the Republican Party: “Deficits don’t matter.” Insisting on huge tax cuts for the wealthiest individuals carries out the policy. Expect more of the same.

I think it’s a man carrying a ballot box (presumably filled with voted ballots) to the plane that will carry them to the place where they will be counted. I think the message is that if people can go out in extreme weather to cast their ballots, surely everyone eligible to vote ought to do so.

It’s not a bribe unless you’re paid to do something you shouldn’t do. Michael and Lawrence don’t owe this kid anything.

You have to bring something to the party if you want to be invited – a sparkling personality, a special talent, gorgeous looks, or food. To kids, gum is food. It’s the price of admission.

I can’t imagine going back to the days I remember when bright young women were excluded from professional schools and relegated to child care, cooking and cleaning. Today girls know they can be what they choose to be and do what they choose to do. Elly wants to open doors in Lizzy’s mind, and that’s a good thing. She is just trying too early.

Most mothers will need to work to help support their families because one wage earner can no longer provide a middle-class standard of living for a family . So being “just a housewife” is really not an option today as it was for Elly.

And since so many marriages end in divorce and/or abandonment, a woman has to be able to support herself and her children. I learned that the hard way, and I have no regrets. Elly’s doing the right thing – but she needs to let Lizzy be just a little tot for a while.

Most classes I attended in NYC public schools K-12 had between 35 and 40 students. Sometimes we had to share a desk, and sometimes there were two grades in the same class. We learned because we were expected to. While the teacher was busy with grade 4, the kids in grade 5 read their textbooks, did the assignments and taught themselves.

We were all from middle-class families, which enabled the teachers to maintain order and discipline without a lot of punishment. We understood that we were in school to learn, and we valued the learning…mostly.

The schools today reflect the many problems in our society. The middle class is struggling financially, even with both parents working full time. Who’s available to lead the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and look after the kids after school? Who sees that homework gets done, and who visits the classroom to help out the teacher? No one, for the most part. How are you going to fix the schools without fixing the society and the economy? Can’t be done.
