Perhaps, and this is what I think, Wally has seen and had enough of war that he would prefer to have nothing more to do with it. It takes courage and strength of conviction to walk away as Wally did. This is a very powerful set of panels. Kudos!!! Aaron.

It’s been obvious from the first day we met him that Wally has wounds deep inside. The fact that he has been able to function as well as he has is a testament to his strenght of character, but if he’s to have a future that consists of more than just survival, he needs to heal. This time apart, above it all so to speak, is his opportunity to do just that. Aaron M. is setting the stage by nudging the wounded areas into the light. Flask provides a negative example of what he could become if the wounds continue to fester. Now if he can only trust Holly enough to open up his past to her, she has proven herself to be quite adept at healing. This is a critical “crossroads” moment for Wally. The path to wholeness and healing lies open before him, if he will only choose to take it.
I know I should go back and read this strip from the beginning to understand what the * this is all about. But, I’m afraid that I will do all that and this current story line will still be totally bizarre.

OK. Looking at panel 4 again. There’s about a 50 ton weight squarely on those shoulders. Given Wally’s comments just prior to the bridge incident we know suicide has crossed his mind in the past. He guessed Cliff’s intentions so quickly because he identified with him. Combine that with his comments inside the rocket on Dec 16, 2011 (“This is the last time ANYONE is going to have to save my life!”) and a scary picture starts to emerge. It was mere hours ago that he had determined to go out in a blaze of glory inside the PT. Let’s hope he’s not headed for the railing. I’m not sure he’s read up on string theory… :-(

AM’s apparently trying to force Wally to stop running and face his violent past and accept it.The way he keeps emphasizing that Wally’s a cat, he seems to be forcing Wally to face his identity issue and accept that also. Wally’s only pre-End photo of himself may have been destroyed, but you don’t need a photo to keep looking at yourself internally, and obsessing about the image.AM is playing Yoda, pushing “Luke” into the scary hole to fight himself.
Sep 12, 2011. Wally specifically tells Petey that he has never intentionally killed anyone. That does leave the “unintentionally” window wide open. Up to that point in time, we know he killed one topsider accidentally when the guy got in the way of the flying fire hydrant, but aside from that we have no information. If his dream was indeed historical in nature, then perhaps it is hearkening back to another “accident”; one that haunts him much more.
My feeling is that there is a possibility..That .Aaron Marx may knows something about Wally’s past and that he is trying to get Wally to comfront the Demons that are haunting him.

Maybe Aaron M is giving Wally a drawn rifle to say, “You might as well have pulled the trigger.” Although, Wally looks thoughtful, not horrified, by Aaron’s words. Then, he leaves to contemplate what just hajppened. Maybe just a little out-of-the-box thinking, but who knows. Aaron N always seems to throw us a curve ball and then gleefully watches as we awkwardly try to catch it.

We know little about Wally pre-Endtown.
The question was asked a while back, is it possible Wally and Flask knew each other before the war? Possibly served together?
Flask expected Wally to be “bigger” when they first met in Endtown.
The gun he is offered is a specific model, one he appears to recognize. He seems to be staring through it at a memory.
His acts as a soldier would be one explanation of his isolation and survival skills after the war.
