Touché! But I think it was not his fault completely.

Clearly the alcohol is doing Allie’s talking. Wally seems to have either had his fill of killing in the past or he has never had to cross the line of taking another person’s life. He believes in preserving life instead of taking it. The poor kid has a good heart in a bitter and pain filled world.

And this is why Wally will go topside again, as penance and to make the sacrifices not be for nothing.

Well…Allie’s clearly on the same kind of pity party that Wally was on before Holly coaxed him back into life. Maybe now Wally can pass that favor on…

And anyway, the things she’s saying are only a ruse. The real issue is that she saw in Wally the same thing that Holly did—something worthwhile. It’s really her abject disappointment that is speaking, here.Aaron’s a great student of human nature, the one thing that every good author must be. Kudos, AN!

Agreed dwandelt! And yes, Wally, say “Yes, that’s why I apologise”. Okay, it’s what I would say, but.. I don’t have Wally’s inner strength. That last panel can be a number of emotion – we’ll know which tomorrow! (Aaron is great at these mini-cliffhangers.)

Figure it – Allie’s an emotional wreck. She did lose two friends. She did fight to force Wally into coming to Endtown. She was attacked by him when she was vulnerable. And she is an alcoholic who’d been on the wagon until her support structure collapsed under her. Wally’s been gone for weeks, during which time she’s been able to go through a case or so of whiskey bottles. She’s a basket case, and there’s no way a simple Wally/Holly solution is going to help her at this point. She may even feel guilt for having rejected Holly and dumping Wally on her. She doesn’t even know him, outside of what little time they were walking together Topside. There’s no basis for trust between them, and as far as she’s concerned, he’s the source of her problems.

@AaronNeathery or anyone who can answer, why is alcohol so plentiful and easy to get in Endtown when so many other things like food are not?

Just started getting into this strip – I have read the strip from 2009 (when it started) till now. I got the story line all right, but I cannot figure out why Flask ended up the way she did. Can someone help me?

Allie doesn’t want Wally to see her potted! Look at her groping with her emotions in panel 2.

i feel like shes mainly yelling at him because she doesn’t want to see him like this, or she doesn’t want him getting too close to her emotionallly, so she’s purposefully pushinghim away. : ( especially when ilook at panel 2.

The reason all they have to eat is beans and why alcohol is plentiful is simple…..It’s a cartoon!!! The emotional depth and artwork is a tribute to Aaron. But to analyze everything to death takes the fun (and mystery) out of it. I tried to point that out by breaking down a small part of the infrastructure which would go on and on and on ad nauseam.

Wally can’t help her unless she allows it. But even if she doesn’t let him in, she might get a hold of herself and pick herself out of her binge.I hope Wally doesn’t regress because of the guilt trip she threw in his face.Great job today, Aaron! The facial expressions in panel 2 and 4 are too real for words.

    KUTGW,

    Noreen

Allie’s reactions are pretty standard alcoholic behavior. Lash out at anyone who may try to help you, always hide your shame, and always blame others for your problems and hurt feelings. I’m an ACA so I grew up with all that. Aaron totally nailed it, and did it in 4 panels which is amazing!

I didn’t think Allie took that scratch too seriously. She didn’t look like it at first. It seemed to me that Wally was the one who got hurt emotionally from that. Hm…food for thought.
