The burglars didn’t take that ‘easy’ chair. I guess it would have been too ‘hard’ to take, or they have discriminating taste. Calvin, have you checked your bed? Maybe there’s still a tale/tail to be told, but that’s another ‘story’. Well, it’s upstairs, isn’t it?

Mom was trying to make you feel better at the time Calvin. I got yelled at good by my granddaughter today and she told me I was bad. While straightening out my granddaughter’s bedding Elmo fell on the floor. She had wrapped him up in her blankets to take a nap and I missed it. I hurt Elmo when he hit his head on the floor and I could of broke his arm or leg, I was told! She’s three and spent about a half a hour rocking him and rubbing his head trying to calm him down because he was crying! I had to apologize several times to Elmo and hug and kiss all his boo-boo’s once I was told where they were so he could calm down!

shieldsdk: I’m sorry, but it doesn’t work that way. You just can’t go to the store and buy a new Hobbes, a new teddy, a new bink, a new anything else. If it’s lost, stolen or destroyed your child is bereft. There is no replacement. It is their first (and I think one of the worst) heartbreaks. You really can’t get it back. Will they get over it? Sure. But, a replacement is not the answer.

Ahh, the tender hearts of children. How often adults forget that they too had hearts like this, and misunderstand (and in some cases mistreat) their children as a result. The Biblical perspective calls that multi-generational sin…..

to GweedoMurray: 9 Chickweed Lane is still around? I used to enjoy that very much until Houston Chronicle quit carrying it something like 3-4 years ago. Chronicle has always been pretty crappy on judgment about which comic strips to carry. Will try to look up 9 Chickweed Lane.

Once in a while we get to see and experience the pain and sadness Calvin goes through as a little boy that Watterson conveys through this cartoon that is different from most…like the one where he found the baby raccoon that could not be saved…who could not be touched by these stories even if they are just a comic strip?

Question for the publisher, has Mr. Watterson passed on? Is he on extended Sabbatical? I read these comics (for the last months it seems now) in my Calvin and Hobbes Anthologies YEARS ago. I’d like to know if I can expect new stories, because I can re-read these any time I want. Thank you.

Add me to the list of those who got shocked into real sadness when I saw this unusual strip … no punchline, just time stopping and the surroundings disappearing.

To caricature a face or even a personality in ink is one thing. To capture an entire state of being (for Calvin, a lonely end-of-the-world mourning state) is to reach entirely different level.

“I remember finding out about you Every day, my mind is all around you Looking out from my lonely room, day after day Bring it home, baby, make it soon I give my love to you

I remember holding you while you sleep Every day, I feel the tears that you weep Looking out of my lonely gloom, day after day Bring it home, baby, make it soon I give my love to you
