I tore one off when I was 10 and wanted to see if I would get arrested.

For younger readers, mattress tags used to have the statement “Do not remove by penalty of law”. This was for purposes of quality control, and was meant for manufacturers, who would sometimes tear the tags off mattresses and resell them. This lead to the misconception that you could get arrested for tearing the tag off your own mattress. In the 1990s tags were changed to read “Do Not Remove by Penalty of Law Except by the Consumer”.

This is how it starts. All the girls call you bad. You realize young girls like bad boys. So turn to crime and evil just to live up to their expectations. Then after 3 to 5 in the big house. You realize older girls don’t like bad boys, they want a good provider. Now, no one wants you. Well except for Jane, and she just wants to pulverize you!

This reminded me when in TMNT, Michelangelo narrated a black and white, old detective style episode. He listed the laws that the culprit broke including removing the labels from mattresses.
