When David used the sling on Goliath, that weapon at close range against a man armed with only a sword, was like using a pistol today. Now the Israelis lie behind dirt banks with rifles, drones, tear gas and other weapons, and shoot Palestinians either armed with slings, or unarmed. Ain’t progress wonderful.
IN AN INTERVIEW last March with Anderson Cooper, Donald Trump tried to puzzle out what’s behind the terrorism directed at the U.S. “I think Islam hates us,” Trump learnedly opined. “There’s a tremendous hatred there, we’ve got to get to the bottom of it.”
“In Islam itself?” asked Cooper. Trump responded, “You’re going to have to figure that out. You’ll get another Pulitzer.”
During Trump’s speech at the CIA right after his inauguration, he expressed the same bewilderment. “Radical Islamic terrorism,” pondered Trump. “This is something nobody can even understand.”
…
The 9/11 Commission report quietly acknowledged, hundreds of pages in, that “America’s policy choices have consequences. Right or wrong, it is simply a fact that American policy regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and American actions in Iraq are dominant staples of popular commentary across the Arab and Muslim world.” A senior official in the George W. Bush administration later put it more bluntly to Esquire: That without the post-Gulf War sanctions that killed hundreds of thousands of Iraqis and the stationing of U.S. troops in Saudi Arabia, “bin Laden might still be redecorating mosques and boring friends with stories of his mujahideen days in the Khyber Pass.”
Trump did get a good deal recently. The day after he announced that we would be helping Chinese telecom company ZTE, the Chinese government donated $500,000,000 toward the construction of a Trump property in Indonesia. Can you say Emoluments Clause, boys and girls?
Moving the US Embassy to Jerusalem will no doubt work out about as well as a Trump casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey. What could possibly go wrong? Oh wait . . . .
The Palestinians have refused to come to the conference table for nine years. This is merely a decision which says “There are consequences for your refusal to negotiate.” That is what they are protesting.
How can we be so stupid as to ignore the fact that it was the Palestinians who ATTACKED? Every recent Prez including BC & BO have known it was right to move to Jerusalem, but couldn’t get it done. Trump did it with the appreciation of those who were ATTACKED BY THE PALESTINIANS.
Maybe he gave them a good deal on “Trump Branded Body Bags”, the FINEST, BESTEST, most YUGELY POPULAR body bags in the world, each one with a genuine simulated 24 carat gold-plated zipper!
BTW, didn’t Trump say we needed a better deal with Iran? Well where is it? Leaving the current deal is only part of the campaign promise. Where is the new better deal oh great-maker-of-deals?
Hitler taught Netanyahu (though his education was all in the US) by example of how to deal with those you’ve locked in a prison who rebel. The Warsaw ghetto was supposed to be a lesson on oppression, not an expression of how to act when YOU have the weapons and power. (Like nukes in your closet.)
In one week Trump started a war in Gaza and gave Iran the go ahead to build nuclear weapons. What a great negotiator, how great he has made things! at least his followers will love how he is growing jobs in China!
The whole Embassy thing is just an attempt at riling up the fake Christians that America loves Israel. Though I sometimes wonder why the rest of the world hasn’t sanctioned Israel for the killings and the settlements which clearly violate various treaties.
AND…The United States blocked a United Nations Security Council statement drafted Monday that called for an independent investigation into Monday’s killing of at least 58 Palestinians along the Israeli-Gaza border. The deaths, alongside some 2,700 people who were injured, made Monday the deadliest day in Gaza since 2014. The protests erupted on the same day as the opening of the U.S. embassy in Jerusalem—a move that outraged Palestinians and many in the Muslim world. The statement, vetoed by the U.S., said in an initial draft: “The Security Council expresses its outrage and sorrow at the killing of Palestinian civilians exercising their right to peaceful protest. The Security Council calls for an independent and transparent investigation into these actions to ensure accountability.”
