What scares ME is that some people want to keep perpetuating the cycle of government dependency. Throwing money(other peoples’) at a problem seems to assuage all guilt they may have for living life with little or no help. And yet, by doing so, they deprive an entire class of people from obtaining any dignity at all from living life on its own terms.Life isn’t fair. That’s reality. If you’re going to live, you’re going to have to overcome adversity. If you want to win at life, you have to work at it. If you want to earn enough wealth to ensure your dependents don’t HAVE to work, YOU have to work HARD. Bunch of whiny crybabies wailing because some wealthy guy has a yacht instead of doing what it takes to GET a yacht on their own.Yeah, we should help people that CAN’T help themselves, but beyond that any government assistance SHOULD be temporary and conditional. The poverty cycle HAS to be broken. It’s going to be socially painful because it will be like yanking the needle out of an addict’s arm. People will suffer. Some will die. But out of that adversity, a stronger people will arise. Now, go ahead with the anecdotal sob stories.
Lenavid, it’s true some people game the system. It’s sort of like trump gaming the tax laws or the bankruptcy laws in his business. It happens. Rich people and poor people all try to game the system. The big difference is that just as most taxpayers are mostly honest, most of the poor have at least one job, many have two because one doesn’t pay enough to eat AND pay the rent. Your interpretation of the situation is laughably simplistic.
How does one pull themselves up by their bootstraps when they have no boots?
Ok, here’s the scenario. Mrs. X now has to go get a job. In order to do this, she needs to have a babysitter. The sitter’s pay eatsup most of the wages she’s earning. Minimum wage isn’t that great to start with. Plus, she’s losing withheld taxes, medicare and Social security from her paycheck. Her rent goes up. (Thank you, Dr. Carson). Actually, it might be intelligent to add child care and job training to her monthly welfare check. These conservative misers in DC have no sense!
Speaking of people “Gaming” the system…can you say 4 BANKRUPTCIES to avoid paying creditors, HIDDEN TAX RETURNS to avoid showing all the fraudulent claims, and more? Sound Familiar???
I have always voted my conscience for the right candidate whether GOP of Dem and had a handy cheat sheet for the booth. It is so much simpler this time around. HUD secretary Ben Carson announced a proposal that would increase rent payments for the poorest families on housing assistance. The new low-income rent reform would require household that receive federal housing assistance to pay 35% of their gross income in rent, up from the current requirement of 30% of adjusted income. Also, it would triple the minimum monthly rent these families must pay – from $50 to $150. Roughly 712,000 housing assistance recipients currently pay less than $150 a month. The legislation also proposes evaluating residents’ income once every three years, rather than annually, which “would substantially ease the administrative burden”
We know corporations are people, and therefore corporate welfare is making people dependent! Let’s get those corporations off welfare, so they can have a little dignity!
If there is a part of the brain where the capacity for compassion can be located, Dr. Carson assuredly lacks it, or it has degenerated from lack of use.

I ought to know I do the same thing.”

According to our current HUD, America has a homeless problem, namely that not enough people are homeless. And they’re certainly doing something about it!
5 days ago – Now, instead of looking for ways to relieve low-income families of this burden, the federal government is trying to make the housing crisis worse, with the Washington Post reporting on Wednesday that Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson is looking to triple rent costs for people living in poverty.

HUD’s POGROM – {rhyme and coda}
Carson has changed HUD’s program.
It’s now pretty much a pogrom
’gainst a batch of poor blacks,
to send ‘em back to their shacks.
… Coda:
Ben is anOther agency head
who Destroys his government outfit instead
of doing whatever its charter had said.

Carson is the result of deep partisanship where ill-conceived ideologies have become more important than actually serving the public.

THEY CLAP FOR TRUMP’S RAP – {limerick and coda}
Trump-fans admire his bodacious-ness
in his phone-ins to Fox with loquacious-ness.
They applaud his audacious-ness,
while ignoring his fallacious-ness
and deeming sagacious his mendacious-ness.
… Coda:
They exult in and clap for Trump’s rap
tho’ Mucho’s the crap in his yap.

CONGRESS’S DUTY – {limerick and footnote}
The RepCong’s replete with jerks
who enable The Donald’s quirks
so’s to get their perks
tho’ disaster lurks
when the Congress its duty* it shirks.
… Footnote:
“Its duty” is to stymie the prez’s dumb works, -- and to wipe the smile off his face when he smirks
while he’s doing dumb stuff which a sane person irks.
