It is simple enough. Who knew the money was coming? This is a state where corruption is the norm. Overkill should have known in advance and have warned Jeff what to expect. it. What better way than to get double what you want then by having the first shipment diverted.

As Jeff can acknowledge he was an idiot he is not retreating into Fantasyland.

He is accepting his responsibility. The next step is co correct his mistake.

Of course, we should correct our mistake and get the hell out of there.

Not to worry. Overkill and his ilk can always count on a bailout from the federal government, regardless of which party is in power. Eisenhower had no idea how massive the military-industrial complex would become.

Fifty million? What’s Overkill carrying on about? For fifty million he doesn’t even say kaddish! Unless he’s more of a loser than we’ve been led to believe.

Does this mean the bounty on his head has been raised 50-fold?

Why does everyone who quotes Eisenhower and the “military-industrial complex” not go ahead and go with Ike’s first draft of that speech which called it the “military-industrial-political complex”?

British tried the same thing in 1841- departed with deadly results in 1842 (leaving their money behind)- Russia didn’t do to well-with our help- and we STILL haven’t learned our lesson? Afghan culture is VERY varied, and they don’t want “our” form of government- as it simply doesn’t work for their culture. We call them “primitive” because of their violent nature, while we drop “smart bombs” on their kids. So who is teaching whom about “civilization”?

“Civilization,” as is “History,” is defined by the conquerors.

@ MisngNOLA, for the same reason that Ike revised his speech and took the word out. If you don’t know how the system really works, “political” causes unnecessary confusion for the unenlightened and ruins the talking point. If you do understand how government really works, the word is merely self-obvious and duplicative.

As WaitingMan correctly points out, it doesn’t matter which party happens to be in power. The government is not run by elected officials, but by a million civil service embedded bureaucrats and lobbyists who like their power and piece of the action just the way it is, not withstanding campaign messages of :”Hope and Change”. Where do we really think all those billions of “economic stimulus” really ended up?

Todays cons would say, “Ike’s been hanging out with the French so long that he went soft on national defense”.

I hope everyone knows this payment of a bribe to an impostor is based on a real and recent event in Afghanistan.
