Calvin should have asked “Why were we born?”

Hobbes’s grumpy look in the final panel makes me wonder if he was missing the point on purpose.

“Because it’s there”

A philosophy prof asked a simple question on the terms final exam “Why?”

One bright student wrote “Why not?” and handed in his paper. The only perfect mark

Some questions just have no answers.

Life is a test and you don’t get to know what the subject or questions are until it’s over.

Hobbes, as usual, is the voice of reason.

Calvin, you’ll likely remember this question in a decade or so with a little help from LSD.

The answer to the meaning of life, the universe, and everything.

My favorite – For most people, the answer to the question “Why am I here” is because your parents had too much wine with dinner.

All those philosophy classes I took, and Hobbes had the answer all along

No use Calvin, Tigers’ only existential thoughts are for food, sleep, and smooches.

I remember asking my mom the same basic question when I was no older than Calvin is. I was able to get her to understand I was deeply interested. She told me that she and my father hugged each other a special way. I immediately asked how that was done, and she said she couldn’t tell me. I responded that I just wanted to know so I wouldn’t hug anyone the wrong way!

There are several existential questions. One – Why are we here? Two – What is the meaning of life? Three – What is the secret of life? (There are many, all waiting your discovery.) Excuse me – My puppy wants me to go play with him.

Then there’s the age-old conundrum: Why in the world was Mr. Howard named “Curly” when he had short hair?

Philosopher’s and pragmatists never mix.

And my favorite: “A fool can ask more questions than a wise man can answer” – sorry, can’t remember who said it first.

You.. are here for the same reason there are bugs.. viruses.. and algae. At some point there was enough “stuff” to start a self replicating process.. that led to the diversity we see today. As a “self described inteligent” species our time measured on the big scale will be insignificant.

Calvin is asking about final cause, Hobbes answers with efficient cause.
