Was never and could never be a Republican but I have had a lot of respect for some of its members. But has that political party sunk so low that they now accept pedophilia in their ranks? And don’t get me started about the state of Alabama….
I sense some desperation in Trump’s backing Moore, his support dropped in the third quarter and when his ‘Christmas gift’ tax plan is closely inspected, he thinks he will loose more support … he needs allies. Having turned the public’s internet over to the telecom industry hasn’t helped in winning support either.
@Shoppersmiths: No. What you are seeing is RIGHTEOUS ANGER at someone who has been accused by MULTIPLE women of predatory behavior (and who belongs to a church that encourages it— see the Duck Dynasty “patriarch’s” comments on marrying teenagers), and indeed someone who has been REMOVED from office twice for incompetence and violations of the law and the Constitution, being supported by the Republican Party for short-term, party-over-country logic. There’s nothing desperate about it. It is outrage. The sheer vileness, the EVIL of this is what outrages those of us on the left.
Coming from the same people who tried to savage Bill Clinton for consensual relationships, this is beyond hypocritical.
And if you don’t get it, you are not paying attention.
Trump would have already walked in on her changing. I wonder if Trump will want to just start kissing her or if he would want to have her do a Russian prostitute job on a mattress?
It’s a shocking, coming from an Eisenhower Republican family, to see what they have become. Thanks Hippogriff for letting me know about it, disappointing as it is. I suppose it is necessary as if they held Moore to a moral standard, how could the ignore Mr Trump’s behavior. I do feel good at the moment being unaffiliated, but sad to see what extreme partisanship is doing to our country and our future, apparently in a vain effort to squeeze more profit out of a aging, stagnant economy using supply-side stimulus one more time.
" …
As for the other leaders of the party, with their brief separation and then reconciliation with Moore, they have set their own trap, establishing abandonment as a moral bar and then breaking their own standard in short order. Politically, they may get away with it, at least in the short term. If the polls are right, Moore will win and head to the Senate. Nor can the GOP lose much credibility for taking sexual assault seriously; after all, as long as Trump is president and the party’s de facto leader, there’s no credibility to lose.
Longer term, there’s more potential for damage. The reversal is more embarrassing because of Moore’s disdain for the party. A deeply flawed candidate even before the sexual-misconduct allegations—Moore was twice removed from the Alabama Supreme Court for defying federal courts, blamed 9/11 on lack of faith, and uses racist slurs casually—he practically reveled in Washington’s denunciations, making plain how little he was beholden to the rest of the GOP. Now much of the rest of the GOP is slinking back to him.

When faced with a perve
The voters must swerve
Or they’ll get exactly
All that they deserve
