From the beginning, plenty of conservatives (at least those with functioning brains) were opposed to Trump for two reasons: Trump is not conservative, and Trump is not sane. (Trump’s dishonesty did turn off some, of course, but not nearly enough.) Now, the deficit hawks are outraged that Trump made a deal (which may or may not come to fruition) to raise the debt ceiling, and the deal (if such it is) was made with Democrats! He probably didn’t ask Little Donnie if that was a good idea, since Little Donnie was busy lying behind closed doors about his Russian collusion………
Rumor has it that Trump is on line to eliminate the debt ceiling. I’m not financially educated. I don’t know how that impacts our government. If I had no spending ceiling I’d spend a lot more than would be sensible, I don’t know about a government if they had no ceiling.
hurricane trump strengthens as Governing Norms and Voter Rights prepare. Trump strengthened to a Category 4 blowhard when he pardoned a racist sheriff. Churning up the Conflict of Interest Rules prompting emergency declarations on the Rule of Law. Trump is expected to remain a “Dangerous major sh*tstorm” and has directly affected Race, Health Care and Science. It is too soon to know the impact Trump will have on the continental US where no warning or watches are in effect. regardless, everyone in America should ensure that they have their Trump Government plan in place, as we are now near the peak of the season. Trump could affect not just peace in the middle east, but along China, North Korea, Russia as well as at home. Trump is a classic narcissist, meaning he was pursuing gratification from vanity and egotistical admiration of his own attributes well before taking office. And these narcissists frequently become some of the largest and most intense dictators. Examples include Muammar al-Gaddafi and Kim Jong-Ill.
@Sadandconfused9 – The short answer is that the debt ceiling is a (probably unconstitutional) law resurrected by Congress (GOP Congress / Bill Clinton POTUS) so they can pretend to be fiscally responsible.
An imperfect analogy is refusing to pay your credit card bill. When a law is passed by Congress and signed by the White House, they have already agreed to spend that money that the law implies. The debt ceiling Kabuki theater allows them to pretend they are doing something about the debt.
Unfortunately, When Congress messes around too much, the USA’s credit rating drops which makes all that debt even more expensive.
Probably unconstitutional: Section Four of the Fourteenth Amendment states, at its outset, that “[t]he validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned.”
“Shall not be questioned.” doesn’t seem to lend itself to much interpretation….

Of course, if the US were to default on the Debt Limit. Then the “Full Faith And Credit” of the U.S. would not mean very much anymore…. Probably causing the rest of the world to no longer see the U.S. as a safe place to keep money, devalue the U.S. dollar, and possibly cause a world-wide recession / depression.
I usually (okay, frequently) agree with you, and I don’t mind admitting I’ve learned a few things from you. But I think there’s a world of difference between lower-case conservatives and upper-case, and between either and reactionaries. As near as I can tell, Trump is a former Democrat or at least a spoiled rich kid/limo liberal type, but is a current reactionary bigot with no real attachment to any political party (or political philosophy). True conservatives ranging from William F. Buckley to George F. Will (the “F” is probably a coincidence……..) have or had denounced him. Also, Charles Krauthammer and David Brooks don’t much like him……..To stop playing my character for a minute, let me just say this. I didn’t like Clinton, was hoping she would NOT run. Yet I agree with Brooks, who stated publicly, the Friday before the election: “One of these candidates is not fit to become the president of the United States, but I can’t tell you his name.”

I have to disagree with this one. Conflict of interest rules and rule of law were way at the beginning of his path of destruction.
