Whoa! That part sounds a lot like what happened in Charlottes Web.

Just means you are getting attached to what you read.

Do kids actually read anymore? Do they touch actual books?

To paraphrase the old joke: if you think reading is overrated, try ignorance.

One shouldn’t be afraid of being made to feel a wide variety of emotions while reading. You’re missing the point otherwise.

When I was 15 my older brother, a GREAT believer in an active intellect, gave me four Ayn Rand books and 4 Ian Fleming books. I preferred the Bond movies to the books, and Ayn Rand literally gave me nightmares. I will say, though, that she challenged my very young thinking process and opened horizons that have stood me in very good stead. Now, for language, I say “Jane Austen” hands-down.

I miss the days of my youth when the Library Truck would make its weekly stop a couple of blocks from my home. Would go down and get at least a half dozen books and read at least one a day. Little bit of everything-early on it was Freddy the Pig series, Norton, Lightner, and Asimov juveniles and later Heinlein, Anderson, older Asimov, Laumer, and biographies and history for non-fiction. The truck has been retired for over 30 years so nowadays most kids have to have their parents drive them to the Library to get a good book.
