Couldn’t handle much of it, every word from the stage so liquid and syrupy, like ipecac. After the past year of the monotonous “ME, ME, ME”, “I, I, I”, “great, great, great”, not so much stunned, as embarrassed for so many fools occupy our nation.

Trump used that arm motion during speeches before the Convention, when he asked those who supported him to raise their hands. A lot of what he is supporting reminds me of what my now-deceased World War II era relatives described. These are very sad times we are now living in, for a variety of reasons…

Just when you Americans thought you were a mature democracy – don’t worry; here in England we have the Labour Party terminally falling apart. It’s not exactly normal but it will sort itself out eventually.

The real problem here is the Republican Party which, after Trump has narrowly lost to the flawed but electable Hillary, needs to reinvent itself as a political party rather than a We Hate Washington protest group.

Whatever the faults of Hillary Clinton and the Democrats, they pale into insignificance in the face of this four-day hatefest. Trump isn’t Hitler, but I’ve heard a good case that he is Goering. He is certainly following Goering’s playbook: Convince people that (1) they are in great danger; (2) the current government is weak and can’t protect them; (3) you are strong and competent to protect them. The fact that all three of these claims are in blatant contradiction to the facts (crime is down, the Obama administration is aggressively wiping out a good portion of the Middle East, and Trump is a blithering idiot) makes no difference. You can get at least a third of the people to believe it. The rest is a matter of getting a “lucky break.”

I sure wish the Democrats had a stronger more honest and capable candidate. I don’t trust Hillary to do anything in my best interest, since Obama certainly hasn’t and she might even be worse. Terrible to think that in order to keep America truly a strong nation we might have to resort to fascism. I am truly dismayed.

One of the better choices is Hillary….with the choice we have. How many Candidates, senators etc. have a laundry list of their shortcomings and under table dealings yet get by because of their gender!!! Not only was the convention a demonstration of a “fascist” but a despicable CIRCUS,pandering to the middle class and to "some"Americans intelligence. Even for republicans they should be hang their heads in shame after decades of respectable debates and conventions. I pray this man never has his finger over the nuke button!!!! @whitet3260

A friend born in Austria told how in her youth, they cheered the arrival of Herr Hitler in their country. She is well aware of the attitude of Trump’s ego driven psychosis, with actually more the demonstrative speaking style of Benito. Neither of them ended up well with their plans, attitudes, AND girlfriends, either in a bunker, or hanging from a power pole.

I’ve got plenty of reason to be suspicious of Hillary Clinton, going all the way back to the Rose Law Firm. But I do notice that all the charges against her are found in documents produced by her political enemies and made up of tendentiously selected facts. You’d have trouble putting together a You Tube video of her suggesting illegal things or saying outrageous things. With Trump, on the other hand, you could produce a feature-length movie just from video clips. Seems like a clear difference to me.

@LameRandomNamePlease stop embarrassing yourself in public. Doctor Franklin was talking about the difference between a “republic” and a “democracy”. NONE of the later forms of “socialism”, or "communism’ or tons of other “isms” even existed at the time. And if you are so far gone that you don’t know that the Nazis hated the Russians and vice versa, then you will continue to embarrass yourself in public, I fear…….

To All those Saying Hitler Was a Leftist:

Hitler was strongly anti-Socialist. He considered the Social Democratic Party of Austria to be anti ethnic-German. From Chapter III of “Mein Kampf”:

The fate of the Germans in the Austrian state was dependent on their position in the Reichsrat. Up to the introduction of universal and secret suffrage, the Germans had had a majority, though an insignificant one, in parliament. Even this condition was precarious, for the Social Democrats, with their unreliable attitude in national questions, always turned against German interests in critical matters affecting the Germans-in order not to alienate the members of the various foreign nationalities. Even in those days the Social Democracy could not be regarded as a German party. And with the introduction of universal suffrage the German superiority ceased even in a purely numerical sense. There was no longer any obstacle in the path of the further de-Germanization of the state.

Hitler blamed democracy for the rise of Marxism and he had the most foul words to describe both:

The Western democracy of today is the forerunner of Marxism which without it would not be thinkable. It provides this world plague with the culture in which its germs can spread. In its most extreme form, parliamentarianism created a ‘monstrosity of excrement and fire,’ in which, however, sad to say, the ‘fire’ seems to me at the moment to be burned out.
