Hmm, so the day when the last Fokker CX in military service crashed, and the day after the arrest of Andreas Baader, must somehow be really important for him.

Everyday is a great day. The first thing I do, is read the Irish Sports Page ( The Obituaries ) and the Police Report in the newspaper. if I’m not listed in either one, then it is going to be a good day.

I’m thinking the day he got married and the day his first child was born. :) They were quite a distance apart. Maybe he had to finish his schooling first.

I can’t agree with that. But then I’ve been married for 31 years to the same person. No children, just us. And it gets better all the time.

According to the “Pickles” site on Facebook, He says: In case you’re wondering, those dates are the day my little brother was born and the day I was married.

On the contrary my friend. The expression comes originally from my grandmother and mother, both born in Ireland. The reason that it is Obituary column is called the Irish Sport page is that in the same way as the men would turn to the sports pages of the newspaper first, the woman would head for the obituaries to see if there was anyone they knew that had passed away and whose wake they would be attending. Irish wakes, especially in the old days, were events not to be missed. Likewise the Police Blotter provided fodder for gossip. Also, in Ireland, obit writing was a fine art, developed during Victorian times. Even in the U.S. in the old days, a good obituary was a good read, especially " between the lines ".

I am Irish and I first heard that term from my dear Pa . . . we Irish have a sense of humor and can laugh at ourselves . . . unless we drink too much Irish Whiskey and then we are sad . . . so I stay away from the stuff.
