Mallard, it is like the invisible airplane problem. If you avoid the Sun and Moon in the daytime, solid blue or fluffy clouds make a good background. The big deal is the subsonic resonant sounds that noise cancellation tech can’t mask. Visibility masking and NCT is easy if you have railroad cars full of money, Doing it affordably is the trick. Who knows, when I went to school a trillion dollars was a lot of money, and a quintillion was a theoretical exercise. Anyone look at the average number of dollars represented over the annual action in the energy futures markets? A friend brought me a financial product somewhat based on energy for my opinion. Easy, it makes toxic waste look attractive, and these exotics are being offered to retail clients. Run Like Hell. Bezos made a good deal if he can get Kay’s heirs far from operations.

The important point here is that Mallard didn’t vocally command the dittos to specifically make Wally partly invisible. It’s a mental command, meaning that they may have bonded to Mallard. The question is if Wally needs special training to control them himself, or if Mallard can tell them to just bond to Wally directly.

I wonder if the dittos are Lucranean technology or if they just salvaged it from the wild dittos in Sparkplug’s neighborhood and got it to work for them. If it’s technology and not the mutant biology of someone who was in a very altered state when changed. Dittos could be the mutant equivalent of HeLa cells.

" Dittos could be the mutant equivalent of HeLa cells.". It just occurred to me, I haven’t seen any cockroaches in the Endtown post-apocalypse. Cockroaches are alleged to be able to survive anything. Could cockroaches have mutated into a hive intelligence as long as they have sufficient numbers, and avoid going feral? Sure, it’s a make-believe world. It could even be Keith Richard’s seed, undying, percolating, and waiting for the right moment to stage a coup.

Ok, if that thing is still at the foot of my bed in a few hours I’m going to the hospital.Jus…Weary…of Pain

Didn’t think of it till later, but if Wally does get the ditto project, it would solve Problem Number Two, getting past the Security Rats and Jake Jackrabbit, that I mentioned yesterday…

Wally might have been thinking about lying to get an assignment topside, but Mallard could see right through him.

Same stuff was used by Marx when he appeared behind Jacob and when he left Jacob.Marx is still around probably watching the “festivities”.So the dittos react to who is looking at them at and from where. They react to the viewer in other words.Vision based folks see nothing. Electronics may see it different. The problem is this….have the Topsiders figured the same thing out after the airship issue. Remember they saw nothing visually but their mass sensor indicated an object there. It is what they fired on locking the missiles on it. The Topsiders could adapt to using more sophisticated equipment of course it would have to be close range to see a person due to size.I wonder do Topsiders eye pieces they look through have the ability to be adjusted to what they see??Like Predator adjust the equipment to switch to different levels of vision. Here in our universe it would be like switching from visual to thermal. I use a handheld thermal scanner to sweep a house when we are preparing to do a tactical hard entry. Works amazingly well.

I find myself thinking of Aaron Marx’s comment that Jacob would do Endtown a world of good. Is that due to some leadership attribute that we have yet to see? Or is it that his antics will force other people to do things that support the greater good?Maybe Marx knew that the Milk Trial and its aftermath would lead Wally and Holly to want to leave Endtown and make Wally visit Professor Mallard and get dragged into a mission that will be a great boon to Endtown, and perhaps mutant kind. Just a thought.

It’s interesting that dittos not only camoflage the object to be hidden, but also wipe out it’s shadow. This implies coordination between seperate groups, which supports Mallard’s psychic hypothesis. TSOJ alluded to this possibility way back during the Butch & Sundance encounter. He said dittos could be especially effective against TSers by covering their optical sensors instead of covering the object to be hidden. I get the feeling we are in for a wild ride during this upcoming topside foray… ;-)

In defence of Jake Jackrabbit, he has a bias against unmutated humans until they “prove” themselves but the anti human hatred that showed itself in the beating of Al was already present or it wouldn’t have happened. It just needed and excuse to express itself in the form of supporting Jake. Such outward expression of prejudice actually hurts the campaign. I reference the anti-jew sentiment of the nazi’s being low-key before 1933 as compared to after Hitler bacame Chancellor.

Mr. Sherman,The sad fact about Jacob’s prejudice is that we only know about it second hand through people like Dottie and Al. The closest we had to a direct quotation is in the hit piece Jacob had written about Al, and I don’t remember if anything had been quoted. That said, I question if there’s anything any human could do to “prove” his or her self to Jacob’s satisfaction. One could argue that the fact that security checks out all newcomers should count for quite a bit. In Al’s case, going on dangerous foraging missions to feed Endtown should count for enough to lead this so called reporter to do a little investigation before writing a hit piece. I suspect that Jacob’s “bias” is permanent, he is just careful to hide it when it is not politically expedient.

I could be wrong, Professor… But I don’t think becoming a lab rat counts as volunteering for a mission.

Marx’s Master plan continues.Manufacture a power grab that involves an event traumatic enought to send these characters to the topside. To do so they gain a mission by the Duck, who is testing the very Dittos Marx gave to him as a tool.
