A new bike will cost about as much as they made at the yard sale.

Elle would have been better off just donating money. This is going to wind up really costing her.

Just check out the garage sales tomorrow and buy Mike a better bike. If you look around you can always find a good selection of bikes at garage sales and they are usually cheap because parents don’t want to deal with bikes that the kids have outgrown.

I’m sure the bike will turn up. This is a humor comic strip, not “Adventures in Bad Parenting,” as some here would have it.

With the amount of money that John charges for fees in his dentistry practice, THAT’S NOT A PROBLEM!! The family can afford to buy Michael and kind of customized bike he wants!!!!! I remember in later years of the strip they bought an antiques store that cost them a pretty penny, but the investment quadrupled their income!!!

If only you could really sell nearly everything at a yard sale! You can’t give half of it away and have to move it back into the garage. Or put it on the curb for free. That’s why I don’t have them anymore!

The bicycle probably got stolen in all the confusion of the yard sale. Had it had been for sale, there would have been a price tag on it. Without a price tag, the donor of the bike should have been tracked down and asked how much they wanted for it (even though all the money raised was going to the library). Surely to God someone wouldn’t just arbitrarily assign some dollar amount to it otherwise if it wasn’t theirs to do so . . . but then, with some people, there’s no rhyme or reason as to why they do some of the weird and/or stupid things they do sometimes!

It happened in Pensacola, FL about a year ago, that a guy had his expensive bike sold while he was busy looking around at a yard sale. Someone helping at the sale sold it really cheap, & I can’t remember if he ever got it back.

I stopped subscription to a newspaper when they stopped featuring this comic strip. I have been clipping the episodes and I wish to complete until the end.
