As we are usually focused on the immediate consequences of our actions, and tend to neglect that they have long-term consequences, this yields the law of unintended consequences: “The unintended consequences of any action will be more permanent than the intended consequences.”We however must add this: That making no decision IS a decision. It is a decision to surrender control of a situation to outside persons or circumstances outside our control. These axioms ought to be cautionary to people of all political persuasions.

What happened to the loopholes Romney was going to close in order to add revenue?I know Romney lost. Does that mean the Republicans figure they can ignore his platform? Or is it another case of the GOP fighting their own ideas when Obama starts supporting them?So far the ratio of spending cuts versus tax increases is 3 to 1. Tax revenues are at a post WWII low in terms of GDP. Anyone who says we are “done with revenue”, is not serious about the deficit.

And the GOP continues to disgrace itself. So fearing that the democrats will get the credit (well deserved, by the bye) they will destroy the nations economy and future to prevent it.

According to a recent FDR biography, (the title of which I can not bring to mind) he listened to those who said an extension of his policies would be disastrous for the country. So he tightened monetary supply, backed off on work programs, and the economy took a nose dive, which forced him to return to his earlier programs. According to this reading, the US would possibly have been out of the Depression by about 1940 if he had continued his commitment to his earlier ideas.
