Enlarged image can be found here (which speculates who this is in the Notes section), or at Mr. Melcher’s blog entry.A Polish Nobleman is shown, with a small different coloration image, by its current-location page, which says, like several of his paintings during this period, has no factual basis.A different coloration, click-to-enlarge image can be found here, whose description just repeats a line from the museum’s description. It speculates that the sitter was Slavic, but page 115 of Painting in the Dutch Golden Age — A Profile of the Seventeenth Century, a 165 page document found in the museum’s Classroom, says it has the artist‘s features.Another different coloration enlarged image can be found here, but there are many different coloration or detail images available online.Andrzej Rej is mentioned in the Notes section referenced above. His Google translated Polish Wikipedia page says he commissioned the painting. The artist’s Wikipedia page, list of paintings, and collection (much more available in the Subcategories at each level).Second, of the 5 works, by this artist, that have, so far, appeared in Mr. Melcher’s blog, to also appear here.

At the risk of showing my age, when I saw the picture I thought, “Harcourt Fenton Mudd,” all dressed up for his next con. Now tell me, who knows the reference?

LadyBlanc, you are referring to the comic space voyager on the original Star Trek series, in “the Trouble withTribbles” and “Mudd’s Women”.
