The deficit for 2009 (which really was the the last year of the GW Bush administrations budgets) was $1,400 billion. The projected budget (I would imagine without the fiscal cliff affecting things) is now at $920 billion. That is a difference of just about $500 billion.If the economy continues to improve at its current rate, and we get out of Afghanistan when promised, the budget deficits should continue to decrease at the same rate, leaving the last year of President Obama’s budget deficits at about $400 billion, far less than the average of the GW Bush administration.

And if the #$%ing “Personal Responsibility” conservatives would just get off their butts and take personal responsibility for their health care by supporting the Capitalistic Health Care Economy by BUYING some Health Care Insurance from a Private Company, instead of getting their FREE liberal-tax-payer-funded health care at the Emergency Room, then there wouldn’t BE that big Romneycare ‘Tax’ increase.(single-payer would still be better.)

If people feel that Obamacare is bad, it can be modified. It does not have to work just the way it was originally written. Facta, non verba: deeds, not words. I apologize for my clumsy phrasing. What I meant to say was that if you want a better system, come up with one; it does no good to throw one out and have nothing to replace it. Our system may be the best private medical system in the world, but the reason it is not the best HEALTH CARE system in the world is because of the profit motive, which ensures that those who are sick, old (unless you have that socialist program: Medicare), or poor are excluded from coverage.
You certainly can change any legislation. It’s done all the time, and a good example is how Social Security changed from the time of its original passage. Republicans scream “Repeal and Replace”, but all they have in their ammo box is “repeal”. So my point is, if you have something better, bring it.
Again, it is NOT a government takeover of the health care system. (This oft-repeated phrase won Fox News Politico’s “Lie of the Year” award.) It is instead corporate welfare, where people are required to purchase a product from an independent industry, just like Medicare Part D, which also includes the individual mandate. Funny no one thought it was unconstitutional when the Bush administration used the exact same individual mandate.
If you think that we have the best health care system in the world, I will agree only that we have the potential for the best. We have the research, we have the machines and the methods. We just don’t have the money.
I have watched three people die of cancer recently. My cousin married well, and was very wealthy. When she went in for chemo treatments, she was given a room that seemed just like home, a menu of meals to choose from, and was waited on hand and foot.
My neice had decent insurance, and when she went into the hospital for chemo, she was kept there until her immune system recovered as much as necessary so she could safely go home.
My best friend’s sister had lost her business to an embezzling accountant, who had a better lawyer than she did. She had no insurance, and ended up qualifying for Medicaid. When she went into the hospital for chemo treatments, they finished the treatment and sent her home. Oh, by the way: try to stay away from germs, since your immune system has just been rendered ineffective. Oh, and she had to spend every penny of her meager inheritance before Medicaid would contribute.
The USA is RANKED #1,yes the absolute HIGHEST in the EXPENSE of healthcare.
