Single payer would have put an awful lot of people out of jobs, but would have made patients and doctors very happy

We should have free housing and cars too! Cell phones are essential these days too so throw those in. Oh and how can somebody take care of their health without FOOD? Free groceries for all!! This sounds really neat!

Read the AARP Bulletin this month, page 6. A man donated a kidney to his daughter, now HE can’t get insurance. But then, according to Ron Paul and the real radicals I guess we should just let him die! By the way Conserve: Reductio ad Absurdam!

@lma: You can sell one or more of your vehicles. How do you solve the health insurance problem that way? Slavery was abolished.

Now that there’s something approaching universal health insurance in the US, there should be a big push for improvements in it — that is, towards a single payer system.

No, the conservatives would never go along with an efficient, user-centered program that works if it means crimping the salaries of health insurance company’s CEOs.

Health insurance is my second biggest cost of living, $311 a month. But without it, one sickness and I would be living under an overpass. (which are crumbling thanks to budget cuts)

Don’t like universal healthcare but love our military? Think about it.

It benefits a nation to have healthy, educated, and involved citizens. We need a national healthcare plan because hospitals do not have the right to turn people away from emergency rooms and cannont afford to give the ongoing preventative care necessary for people to make educated decisions about their health. If hospitals could turn people away, I can name over 100 people who would be dead. That is not a humane solution.I do not believe Obamacare is as good a product as what we need. I do believe if legislators, the President, and people from the medical industry who have proven better methods can negotiate and educate each other in good faith, we can have a product that will actually bring costs way down below the currently expected “savings”. We just have to put stockholders last in line and make this for people instead of for profit. The cartoon shows the path some states have taken getting to this point, and mostly because no one had faith in anything ‘lasting’ under current political mindsets. Now that the healthcare plan is going to last at least another four years, they have to rethink. Hopefully, our Senators and Congressmen will also rethink and find a better path.Writing them will help.Respectfully,C.

@ColoradoRon:“Essential health care is provided to everyone in need now; urgent care is always given.” I cannot imagine you think that this is provided without someone paying. No one works for free. Hospitals wrote off $39 billion in emergency room care last year. Think about that when you’re in the hospital and they bill your insurance company $12 for Tylenol. Think this can continue without change?

Try going to an urgent care center without insurance. It’s cash on the barrelhead. No money? There’s the door. Stop bleeding on the floor on your way out.

Insurance companies going out of business? Please don’t make me laugh. Even if we went to single payer, which is the correct answer, there will still be car insurance (seen any commercials for this on TV lately? seems like they have enough money to cover the airwaves 24/7), homeowner’s insurance, business and professional liability, and on and on.

Nobody looked out for me when Pearle, LensCrafters, and WalMart got into eye care. We all adapt to survive. Don’t lose any sleep over the poor insurance companies.

And Rick Scott, the Florida Governor who made his millions by founding a Health Care Company that defrauded Medicare to the tune of a billion dollars, but HE knew NOTHING about that, has decided to NOT develop an Insurance Exchange in Florida, OR to expand Medicaid at the Federal Government’s expense.Obviously, since HE can’t make a profit on that type of Health Care, it costs too much.

It’s NOT the government’s job to provide you with things. This country was built on the principle “you work for what you get – don’t work, don’t get anything” (paraphrased). In other words – provide for yourself.

A good measure of a civilization’s success is how well we treat those around us. If we all chip in for the big items we can make it work. It’s how we fund armies, and police forces so why not doctors and nurses. It would be easier also if large corporations didn’t dodge paying their share of taxes.

Our founding fathers guaranteed us the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. If you can’t get health care, the rest doesn’’t damned matter!
