Boehner has already announced he doesn’t think there’ll be a deficit deal until January. I wish I was a Republican congressman so I could publicly declare I’m not going to do my job, and yet still get paid.

The Republicans have blocked every attempt to let the Bush tax cuts expire as was written in the law. They consider a pledge they signed which was written by a 14 year old to be sacred.
Laurence O’Donnell is not a socialist, any more than Obama is. And the idea of going over the cliff is actually quite appealing — taking taxing back to Clinton levels (ooh! the horror of those days!) taking defense spending back to pre-9/11 levels (aah!) will do more for the deficit than anything Obama or (especially) the GOP would allow. The biggest hurt will be the cuts to domestic spending, which is likely to hurt jobs in the short term, and will cause the poor and sick even more grief than they had under W.
Well, I was born and raised in the South, does that make me a redneck? And I love Trisha Yearwood and Reba McIntyre and Martina McBride and Brooks and Dunn. So maybe I’m a redneck. I hear those Canadians are socialists. Does that mean they all wear the same uniform and can’t ever see a doctor? And every morning they have to get into a big crowd and sing a song praising their socialist leader Chairman Harper. I can see why so many Canadians are trying to escape, but there’s this big wall and they shoot people who try to get across. Why can’t everyone in the world understand that the US is the best country and everyone should be like us? But work for lower wages so we can buy stuff cheap except we can’t afford it because we don’t have jobs. And if they don’t like us, hey, we’ll just bomb them to convince them of how wonderful we are.
